I think there are very few people who don't like fried chicken. Preparing it at home can become a dilemma because we set ourselves a very high standard and start comparing ourselves to KFC, which is not going to be the same, it will not have the same crunchy texture, etc, etc, etc. The truth is, we can make excellent fried chicken at home.

The common one is to use breadcrumbs to obtain that crunchy texture, but there are other things we can use to bread like popcorn. In my country we call popcorn "cotufas" and thinking of giving a different touch to fried chicken, I decided to crush them and use them in breading. The result was great so I want to share the recipe with you today. Let's get started:

Ingredients

  • Chicken
  • Crushed popcorn
  • Wheat flour
  • Egg
  • Curry in sauce
  • Cumin
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Frying oil

Note: the quantities will depend on how much chicken you want to prepare. For 2kg of minced chicken you will need at least 2 eggs, 100g of popcorn, about 100g of wheat flour, 1 tablespoon of curry in sauce, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, salt and cumin to taste.

Preparation

  • First thing we need to do is process the popcorn. Crush them as best you can and keep in mind to remove the grains that don't explode because otherwise you may have an unpleasant experience when biting into the chicken.

  • If you don't have a food processor, you can add the popcorn in a sturdy bag and beat it until it is sufficiently crushed. Whichever method you use, put the popcorn in a bag to make it easier to bread.

  • In a cup, add the eggs, curry sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cumin and salt. We mix very well.
  • We take another cup and add the flour, extra cumin and salt.
  • We take a piece of chicken and pass it through the wheat flour until it is well covered. Then, we pass it through the egg and finally we place it inside the bag where the popcorn is crushed.
  • The idea is that you do this process with 4 or 5 pieces and then take the bag and shake it so that each piece is well covered.
  • Take the pieces out and put them in hot oil to fry, making sure they don't burn and that the chicken is well cooked.
  • Accompany the chicken with the contour of your preference. I served it with white rice and tomato slices.
