[ESP/ENG]🏥 Otra Guardia en Trauma: De Toros, Miasis y Mucho Café / Another Shift in Trauma: From Bulls, Myiasis, and A Lot of Coffee ☕

¡Hola, comunidad de Hive! Había estado desaparecida descansando un poco (¡vaya que lo necesitaba!), y por eso no había posteado nada. Pero ya estoy de vuelta y lista para contarles cómo estuvo mi última guardia en el área de trauma. ¡Acompáñenme!

Hello, Hive community! I had been MIA resting for a bit (boy, did I need it!), and that's why I hadn't posted anything. But I'm back and ready to tell you how my last shift in the trauma area went. Come along with me!

🌅 Empezando el Día con Todo / Starting the Day Full On

Empezamos el día con buen pie, esperando el transporte para llegar bien temprano al hospital. Iba con todo mi "armamento" listo para la guerra médica. Como ya es costumbre, lo primero que hice al llegar fue buscar mi respectivo café matutino para despertar al 100%, empezar a evolucionar a los pacientes y luego ir directo a las curas.

We started the day on the right foot, waiting for the ride to get to the hospital very early. I was carrying all my "weapons" ready for the medical war. As usual, the first thing I did when I arrived was get my morning coffee to wake up 100%, start progress notes, and then go straight to wound care.

🐛 Mi "Gusto Culposo" en Medicina / My "Guilty Pleasure" in Medicine

Aquí es donde voy a sonar súper estudiante de medicina y quizás un poquito desquiciada, pero... ¡amo hacer curas de miasis! Sí, lo dije, jajaja. Tuvimos el caso de una paciente de 15 años con un tutor sobreinfectado y una posible osteomielitis a descartar. Aunque suena fuerte, poder limpiar y ayudar a mejorar esas heridas es de las cosas que más disfruto aprender y hacer.

This is where I'm going to sound like a total medical student and maybe a little crazy, but... I love doing myiasis wound care! Yes, I said it, hahaha. We had a case of a 15-year-old female patient with an overinfected external fixator and a possible osteomyelitis to rule out. Even though it sounds tough, being able to clean and help improve those wounds is one of the things I enjoy learning and doing the most.

☕ El Break Necesario / The Needed Break

Ya por la tarde, mi amiguita, compañera de batalla y yo nos escapamos un momento al cafetín. Necesitábamos una buena dosis de cafeína para soportar el resto de la jornada. Por supuesto, aprovechamos el momento para tomarnos unas fotos lindas y registrar que seguimos vivas y sonrientes.

In the afternoon, my friend, partner in crime, and I escaped to the cafeteria for a moment. We needed a good dose of caffeine to endure the rest of the shift. Of course, we took advantage of the moment to take some cute pictures and prove that we were still alive and smiling.

🐂 Una Noche de Casos Muy Locos / A Night of Crazy Cases

Si la mañana estuvo activa, la noche se puso... interesante. Nos llegaron varias referencias con motivos de consulta bastante peculiares. El premio de la noche se lo llevó un paciente cuya orden decía textualmente: "Motivo de consulta: Lo atropelló un toro" 😂. ¡Cosas que solo se ven en emergencias! También atendimos a una mini paciente que derrochaba estilo con unas pantuflas de garras adorables, entre muchas otras cosas.

If the morning was active, the night got... interesting. We received several referrals with pretty peculiar reasons for consultation. The prize of the night went to a patient whose chart literally read: "Reason for consultation: Run over by a bull" 😂. Things you only see in the ER! We also treated a mini patient who was rocking some adorable claw slippers, among many other things.

✨ Balance Final / Final Balance

A pesar de las locuras de la noche y de todo el trabajo que hicimos, la guardia estuvo bastante tranquila después. Pudimos resolver todo con éxito, aprender muchísimo (que es lo importante) y terminar la jornada con la satisfacción del deber cumplido.

Despite the craziness of the night and all the work we did, the shift was pretty quiet afterwards. We were able to handle everything successfully, learn a lot (which is the important part), and finish the day with the satisfaction of a job well done.
