(Edited)

Good day friends, I decided to visit a poultry in Ile Oluji, Ondo state, Nigeria. I have been patronising the farm for some years now and I can say that the farm supply good birds. There are different sections in the farm, the broilers, noilers and some turkeys are placed in a wooden cage made from bamboo tree and plywood. The manager told me, they designed the cages themselves and produced it. I commended him for a job well done on the design of the cages, I have only seen galvanized poultry cages design like that. The feeding and water trough are being placed outside the cage so that the birds will not put their droppings in it. Also the cages have nets at the base, this will enable the droppings to drop and not in the cage. Some of the turkey (females) are being placed in a deep liter cage where they can mate easily.

The farm manager took me round the farm to show me the birds they have in stock, they have broilers at 5 weeks old, these sets are being sold to people who want to keep them to table size, also there are 10 weeks old, they are keeping this to be sold soon. Also there are noiler birds, the birds are fast growing birds and he also keep this to be sold at table size. There are turkeys in the farm, the turkey are of different sizes and colors and the farm mates the female and male inorder to get the females to lay eggs, the eggs are being taken to the hatchery for incubation, the farm doesn't have their own incubator. They make use of an incubator at Ibadan.

The Manager in his words, told me how lucrative the poultry business, brings money and they are doing fine. The farm make use of 7 staff who work at different sections. I was taken to the layers bird section, the birds are not yet laying, they are still growing and they are very healthy. In few weeks, they should start laying. The layers birds are presently in a battery cage, this cage is the best in keeping layers because they do not have contact with their droppings and feeds. This generally reduces the outbreak of any disease or infection. While he was taking me around, some new day old birds arrived at the poultry from the incubation centre in Ibadan, Oyo State.

I decided to buy 5 weeks broilers to keep at home and this will definitely be ready for consumption very soon. Broilers grow very well especially when they are been feed very well with good quantity of feed and multivitamin and antibiotics are supplied to them.
