Hike to the Black Lake / Schwarzsee

(Edited)

This morning began with a clear sky and looked very promising. The weather forecast said we would have a nice Autumn day, but who believes in the weather forecast? πŸ˜‰

Hike to the Black Lake
Schwarzsee
Hike to the Black Lake / Schwarzsee

Because the weather forecast was good I wanted to get up at 3am, drive about an hour and then go for a hike to a little mountain lake called Schwarzsee what means Black Lake in English.
I have never been on this mountain before, so I have been glad that my smartphone told me the right way to the ski area Verditz, where I could park my car and start the hike which should take about 1 1/2 hours.

It was still dark at 4:30 in the morning, but I had a head lamp with me. I wanted to be at the lake before the sun rises. The path was sometimes quite steep and lead through a forest. About 10 minutes before I arrived at the lake about an hour later the stars in the sky disappeared behind clouds and it became windy. At the lake the wind became a little but quite cold storm.

The strong wind blew the trees and branches and also the water, so a sharp image with nice reflections of the beautiful colored trees in the water was impossible.

The sunrise I have been hoping for happened behind the clouds, but a few times I could see a slight orange shine 😁

If the weather had been better I would have wanted to hike to the next mountain peak called Palnock, which is somewhere towards this westerly direction behind the clouds, but these clouds got darker and I was afraid that the weather would get even worse.

So I decided to leave this dark and cold place and continue my trip to another mountain range with a beautiful pass road further north.

When I stopped next the world has become different - Mother Nature has painted the mountains orange.

Almost all trees and forests were intense orange and of course, I have made a few photos, but these are meant for another post ;)

But surely you will be back there to catch the tree reflections with the sun behind them on another day Hannes?
I can see great possibilities there to get reflections on clear and still water.
Lovely photos all and those rusty mountains really shows up the Autumn theme.

Great photos as always my friend!

The day before it was beautiful there - I got a message of a friend with photos. I don't mind, because now I know how to get there and what compositions might work best if the weather is right, and the hike isn't too hard either … means, of course I'll be back on another day πŸ˜€

Good morning Zac, I thank you very much and wish you a lovely day πŸ˜ƒ

Good evening again Hannes,

Yes, you have done your homework and your legwork and I am sure that you will have much fun there with your camera on a nice clear and windstill day.
Patience then until the winter is over and you can get back on the bike 🀣
We all know about your struggle with patience.

Hope that you also had a good day my impatient friend.
We had another one of those hurry curry days. Do this, then run and do that, then a call comes in and dash off to attend to that and so on and on the whole day.
But I like the mad days as it keeps me active lol.

Cheers and thanks!

I have been sitting in front of the monitor all day long and didn't even want to turn the computer on at home ... but in the end I did, but in a few minutes I'll turn it off again, because tomorrow will be another long day ... and then comes Friday and after Friday comes a long weekend 😁

I agree and I prefer busy days too, because they run as fast as my cats run when they hunt each other 🀣 lol

Yes, I think that you must be tired of monitors my friend.
I could never work on one all day long, even for one day.
Happy for you that it will soon be Friday and have you planned anything for the long weekend?
It must be getting cold over there?

Cheers and thanks!

I used to love computer work, but since my eyes got bad and I needed glasses I started to reduce my computer hours, but I need to sit at the computer at work and sometimes it's just necessary to do even more ;)

No plans made for the weekend yet, and yes, it's colder but there's still no frost, so it's okay ... and when the morning frost is here it will be good for cool photos :)

Marian has the same problems with her eyes all of a sudden. We are sure that it was caused by all of her computer work. They shoulde put a warning out there that staring at a screen for many hours can weaken your eyes!

Well I certainly hope that you will get some great photos my friend.
Discovered this morning that there is an underground stream of water running near our house.
I took a photo of a little crab on our wall outside our bedroom and the old man that lives next door told me about the stream.
That comes from living between the mountains and the ocean.

Cheers and thanks!

Oh, everybody has told me that sitting every day from the morning till the night at the computer would damage my eyes, but I only laughed. Now I can't read anything without my glasses and I don't laugh anymore :)

An underground stream and the crabs dive from the sea to your house - cool πŸ˜€

Yeah, the screens emit harmful blue lighting I am told.
Thankfully my left eye has a plastic replacement (cataract op) and the right eye is now finally booked for a cataract operation in November. Apparently blue lighting cannot harm them, but one never knows!

Hahaha, no these are freshwater crabs my friend. So, they live in the stream πŸ˜€

Here he is on the wall during a fine drizzle rain!

Right, but nowadays the computers and phones have functions to reduce the blue light. I have tried that, but I didn't like it.

Cool, a crab on a journey through the underworld and exploring new regions far away from the sea ;)

Yeah I know and we also don't like it. The screen just doesn't look the same and it's like we are working on something in the dark lol.

Yeah, that crab has certainly done some traveling lol.
Maybe I must catch when next we have some rain and interrogate him about his travels lol.

Cheers and thanks!

The crab might have a lot to tell, but as it must be quite dark down there the story must be very boring ... walking in the dark, bumped my head, walked further, bumped my head again... 🀣

Hahaha, that's why crabs were given telescopic eyes Hannes. They can see in the dark just as clear as we can see in daylight. So they see all the little critters that we don't see.
We only know about them when they bite us 🀣

What? No crabs in Austria? I thought that crabs are worldwide, but I suppse that they cannot live in snow. We have both sea crabs and freshwater crabs, but the sea crabs are eaten by people as a delicacy.

I have yet to eat a sea crab, but I suppose that they taste like Lobster.

Nah! We also have crayfish over here and they are not crabs. Crayfish are expensive in restaurants, but then again crabs are not much cheaper.
Maybe you should try a crayfish meal, as you just might like it, as we like it, but it's too expensive for us.

Cheers and thanks.

Yes and I agree, as for the money that you pay for a crayfish meal, you can go and buy a sheep.
Or a mountain goat 🀣
One day we went to a 5 Star restaurant here and I ordered their special of the day.
This waiter comes and he puts two little blocks of meat in front of me with what looked like a drawing stripe of sauce across the plate. 3 little fresh strings of carrot and one small tomato.

"What's this"? I said. "Your meal" he said. So I told him to get the manager and he told me that he is the manager. I asked him if he was not ashamed to steal peoples money like this and he said that everybody else were happy with their meals.
To cut a long story short, we walked out of there without touching anything and they didn't charge us anything. All that I can say is that I made a big noise there lol.

Cheers and thanks!

But surely you can only drive around if you have a permit Hannes?

Over here we drove around without a permit, but we had a legitimate excuse, as we carted food stuff to the feeding schemes.
So maybe you should take a box of food to a charity and then you can take some photos along the way 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

I can always say that I want to go for a walk at the reservoir or in a forest. That is allowed day and night and certainly safer than a walk in town where I meet other people.

I think if I would carry food I would eat it myself before it would reach anybody πŸ˜‰

No permits needed here, you just have to explain why you are not at home and it has to be one of the allowed reasons like sports, fresh air... and the police has to believe that, of course 😁

Wow! So you are alllowed to go out for fresh air.
Nobody here was allowed to do that and all sports was banned.

If you do your sport allone it is allowed, but no sports where you can't keep distance from others.
So, hiking or jogging or walking alone or with a family member who lives in the same household wouldn't mean a problem.

That was allowed in our Level 3 lockdown.
Level 5 was a very strict lockdown, only essential services could operate. After 9pm no cars were alllowed on the roads. The airlines were shut down and no one was allowed to travel.
Level 4 was a wee bit more lenient, but stilll no alcohol and no cigarettes. After 10pm no cars.
A state of disaster was declared.

So, yes, we have come through a tough period for 5 or 6 montths and now they are battling to restart thee economy that was in trouble even before the lockdown started.

Cheers and thanks!

Alcohol is a bad thing if used wrong, means too much. I know that from myself πŸ˜‰
But most people use it for fun and know when it's enough and that doesn't cause problems.
So I think forbidding alcohol wouldn't be the right choice πŸ˜‰

I am sure that you know that I was also a top drinker in my younger years Hannes.
The problem of alcohol in our situation is unique, as we have massses of unemployed people and alcohol is a poison that leads to drunkeness and fights.
People become totally dependent on the stuff and after a bit too much they beccome brave, with normally dire consequences.

I think it's the same here - there's always enough money for the alcohol and for cigarettes. That's something I can't understand. I wouldn't give them anything if they buy such things instead of things their children need.

Well, I went to school barefoot at the beginning, but we always had food my friend.
So, the first time that I got a new pair of school shoes was like heaven.

It is the same with the poor children at the new non profit that we now partner with.
The first thing that they do with the children that are sent to their school, is that they give them new uniforms and new shoes.

At our first meeting, they took me to their store room to show me the shelves packed with boxes of shoes at the bottom and uniforms at the top. All brand new.
So, when a poor child is admitted they get this for free.
Let me say that when they told and showed me this, I immediately decided that Papillon will partner with them.

So, let's hope that this will turn out to be a great new adventure.

Cheers and thanks!

Good evening Zac,

I loved to walk barefoot, I still do, but I don't think I would have loved it if I had to because of no own shoes πŸ˜‰

I hope your new partnership will go well and you're having a good time helping.
It still sounds strange to me that children nowadays have no appropriate clothing or even no shoes.

Good evening Hannes,

Yes, what can one do as a child when there is no money for shoes?
My mom worked very hard to feed us and to give us a home and once that she could afford a rented small house, it had to be furnished. Tough for a woman with 3 kids and her eldely mother my friend.
So I didn't mind wearing used clothes and no shoes.
More than half of our population are unemployed, so shoes do not feature high on the list of essentials.

All of the systems are now in place and on Monday we will attend a meeting to decide on the course ware. I insist on accredited coding courses, as we ddon't want to give the children a fly by night course that will mean nothing for their future.
I am sure that we will find something good.

Cheers and thanks!

Well, I have had enough clothes with me - I have been surprised by cold weather quite a few times before that I always carry sometimes even too much with me ;)
But typing on the phone is easier without gloves, so my fingers got a bit cold πŸ˜‰

Our temperatures will also go down this week they say, and we might get some rain too. I don't mind, because I have enough to do at work and bad weather makes it easier to sit in the office ;)

My mistake is that I never have extra clothes with me. Too much to carry, so I often end up in bad weather with only a shirt on.
Luckily I don't use a phone and I also have no gloves, so both of those problems are solved 🀣

I bet your boss prays for bad weather so that he can keep you in the office 😁

It's cold and raining here, so my boss's prayers might have come true πŸ˜‰

I have always my backpack with me and especially when I go on a mountain I have enough clothes for bad weather in it ... and gloves, because rocks can get quite cold these days and wearing gloves makes it easier to climb if needed ... and food and drinks πŸ˜€
The backpack can get quite heavy that way, but I prefer to carry more and to freeze or hunger less πŸ˜‰

Most mistakes I make only once and I have had freezing times in the mountains before. So I try to always have essential clothes with me. I need the backpack for my camera and the food anyway, so why not put a few clothes in it too πŸ˜‰

Hopefully I can edit my photos from Saturday during this week and make a little post about my hike - it was very exhausting and my longest hike so far this year, but it was great :)

Yeah, it's a good thing to learn from mistakes and I see them as life's lessons.
The problem that I have with backpacks is that I keeep on adding things to it and eventually it weighs a ton. So no backpacks for me 🀣

Yeah, I would love to see the photos my friend and I think that the exhausting part of the the hike was worth the benefit that you got from it.

If you don't learn from a mistake it will hit you harder next time ;)
I also think I could need this and that and the things don't weigh a lot, but all together they do πŸ˜‚

Oh yes, it's like climbing a steep mountain - the higher you get the more you hate the exhausting effort, but when you are finally on the peak all is forgotten and you enjoy the beauty up there :)

Good morning Hannes,

I think that it's all only one mistake that appears in different forms during our lifetime to teach and shape us.
The pumpkin that's growing here gave me this idea, as it is one pumpking with many shoots growing from it 😁

Exactly what I meant and the backpack is the same as a garage. We continue to stash things in it that we think we "might" need.
In the end, the car doesn't fit into the garage anymore and the backpack gets too heavy to carry 🀣

They say that the end justifies the means and in our search for nirvana, we are prepared to endure very streneous situations.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

your garage is like my cellar - nothing fits in it anymore, but we have already been talking about that a couple of weeks ago ;)

I don't search for Nirvana - I'm searching for a way to retire earlier 🀣 but you are right, the end justifies the means, at least most times.

Good moorning Hannes,

Yes I know that we have already discussed the garage stacking issue, but I thought that it would be a fitting analogy to describe all of the extra things that you fit into your backpack.
There's a lot of fitting going on here in this scribe 🀣

Hahaha, Nirvana in my mind is another word for retirement my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac 😊

this analogy suits of course, I just didn't want to remember my cellar which I should clean up once again πŸ˜‰

Ok, then I'm searching for Nirvana 😁

Good morning Hannes,

Clean up the cellar my friend so that it can get out of your mind lol.
We always create these little things that continue to trouble us 🀣

Yeah, your Nirvana is a few months away.

One of the greatest sins is to let one's coffee get cold 🀣

We have a bright amd clear day here today, 31C, but no time to go out, as first meeting is at 10am and the second meeting is at Imibala at 12 for the coding courses.

Looking forward to your new post my friend 😁

We have postponed the cellar cleaning from last year to 2020 and I think 2021 will be a good year for this work 🀣

Here we have sunshine for the first time since ages I believe. The fog has dissolved and I can see blue sky from my office window 😁

Wish you good luck in the meetings, Zac πŸ˜„

Hahaha, I think we will talk about this again in 2024, when you plan to do it in 2025 🀣

Glad that you had some sunlight my friend.

First meeting was good my friend, but the second one was a dismal one.
At first the guy complained about all of the money that they lost during the covid lockdowns and the he proceeded to give me first world prices for the students.
We are working with poor children and it seems that this guy doesn't understand the meaning of poor.
So, we will not be using their coding courses and I am back on the hunt for another course supplier.
You know what I will say here 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

Some peopl ethink only of themselves and how to get more money. of course they have lost a lot, but he could have given you cheaper prices if he can't work for free.

And yes, I know what you will say ;)

Good news my friend,
I had a message from the CEO of "teengeeks", a lady by the name of Lindiwe, that they "will definitely work with us next year". (Her exact words).
Now this means that we will get the coding courses at a huge Non Profit discount.

I sent a message back to ask if they can in the meantime release two of the courses to us, so that our two teachers can become qualified over December in preparation for next year.
Let's hope my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, as usual you are right, but I now don't want you to get a big head and start to think that you are always right Hannes 🀣
Your missus might prove both of us wrong about you always being right 🀣

At the moment I think that Lady Luck is in love with me.

Today I will show you that Lanner Falcon and I hope that you are not squamish as I got it with its prey!

Cheers and thanks!

But I do hope that I stay right in the case of saying that you are lucky with your work and that Lady Luck will stay with you a very long time 😊

I'm looking forward to your post and whatever squamish might mean, I know you are the one of us who is able to photograph birds and wildlife in general πŸ˜ƒ

Now let me tell you that you are also lucky in the shots that you get Hannes,
Just have a look at the burning bridge photo and see how lady luck told you where to look 🀣

I know that I have to be careful when I post raptors with their pray, as a lady got upset in the past when she saw that. Since then I warn everyone that the prey can be seen.
Squamish merely means a feeling of discomfort and I meant it as a joke, as you are not that kind 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

Oh yes, that bridge shot was really pure luck - if I had taken only one more macro shot I would have missed this view :)

You could barely see the prey and no blood, so I don't see any problems showing the photos.

Aha, I have learned a new word, which I will certainly forget 😁

Amazing how life works Hannes,
"Had you taken one more micro", but your attention was physically drawn to the bridge, as you looked.

I said somewhere else that people are funny and many don't think like we do.
One always have to be careful to offend.
You and I can handle it, but many can't.

We are interested in the beauty of nature and we show it in all of its forms.
Hunting predators are a part of that, a big part in my mind snd so, I publish what I see with no offense in mind. But just in case, I also issue an apology.
At times life is a jungle my friend.

Borrow your wife's lipstick and write the word on your office wall 🀣
Everyone will ask you what it is and you will never forget it, especially if you are reprimanded by the bosses for writing on the walls 🀣
Guaranteed a life long memory!

Cheers and thanks!

It's funny, because you can see worse things like accidents with injured people every day in the news, but nobody minds these. A predator with its prey is just normal, an accident between two cars isn't.

Our apartment needs a new painting anyway ;)

Yes and you are right of course.
It's the unusual and artificial that makes people excited and the newsmen know that 🀣

Hahaha, paint away when the time comes and in the meantime make notes all over the place.

Jokes aside we saw a bamboo section next to the river today and can you believe that people carve their names on the bamboo?
Look at this!
869.jpg

I think they do this because they are scared that they are going to forget their names 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

That's a reason for the names carved into trees I haven't thought of yet πŸ˜‰
They carve their names into bamboo? I wouldn't have thought that's possible. Here you see mostly loving notes on the trees, like "I love her" or so πŸ˜‰

There is a song; "I carve a message on a tree, I love you and you love me..." a song called "You can cry" by a band called "The Troggs"

So yes, they carve their names into the bamboo stalks.

The modern way is to write this on the public toilet walls and insed the doors with permanent black markers.
Imagine telling your girlfriend that you wrote her name on a public toilet wall 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

(Edited)

I have never done such, and because I only go to public toilets if I really need to, I don't have the time to admire these romantic messages on the walls inside - rush in, make my business and rush out without breathing if possible ;)

So, they will call you a "hit and run" Hannes.
Hit and run over here actually means that a guy in a car bumped into another car and then drove away at high speed.

We cannot miss those messages as they are written in BIG letters all over the walls.
Written inside a drawing of a heart like this;

"Hannes Piber true loves ... ..."!🀣

Cheers and thanks!

I know what "hit and run" means, my friend, and I can tell you that I am much faster - the business I make inside of such a facility has not even touched the ground when I will be already outside and away again πŸ˜‚ lol
But it's true, something would be missing if there were not these words on the walls of such places ;)

Over here they call them "craphouse" artists Hannes.
Actually by an uglier name, but I prefer not to use it.

Yes, I hear you about the disappearing act and it's all that one can do in an emergency.
Thankfully nature has many bushes with no grafitti on them and one only has to watch out for scorpions and snakes, which is much better that a public toilet!

Should those words be no more, the sales of markers and pens will drop and I am surprised that no aspirant entrepreneur has not started marketing "Loo Markers" 🀣

Cheers and thanks!

Fortunately, we don't have dangerous scorpions or snakes here :)

To have these beautiful views on a day drive, what a treat. Perhaps next time weatherman will get it right for the lake, the sun breaking photography shows high winds.

Orange warmth filling the mountains from the foot all the way up, absolutely stunning! One forgets the beauty Autumn offers in higher altitude, a couple of years ago I looked into why Europe and USA display varies an interesting bit of reading to say the least.

Thanks for interesting photographic drive @johannpiber

I surely will try it again when the forecast is better, but this lake is on top of a mountain range and they say it is windy up there most times - I don't mind, it's a cool place and nice photos would make a good outdoors day only better, but it would still be a good day without a photo πŸ˜‰

Hi Hannes! 😊

All wonderful captures of nature on your hike. I love the second photo where the light behind the trees reflects in the lake. The last picture of the orange colored trees and forest is spectacular.

We are having a slow rainy day off and on but staying at 9C.

Have a good one dear Hannes.πŸ€—
