Frozen Heart

avatar

Have you ever seen a frozen heart? Well, end of November last year, I have seen one during a walk and I want to share it with you today.

Frozen Heart
Frozen Heart

You might say now that this heart is not completely frozen, and I have to agree, but I also have to tell you that I do believe that no heart can ever be completely frozen.

Frozen Heart Leaf
❖ please click the image for fullsize view ❖

Sometimes they look like frozen but all they need might be a nice word or a warm hand, even a smile ... a single little ray of sunshine in the morning can melt the coldest ice.

Ice

When Winter scourged the meadow and the hill
And in the withered leafage worked his will,
The water shrank, and shuddered, and stood still,-
Then built himself a magic house of glass,
Irised with memories of flowers and grass,
Wherein to sit and watch the fury pass.

by Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts
Frozen Ice

I have taken the second photo yesterday during my morning walk at the reservoir. I have photographed a few icicles and a little waterfall, but haven't had much time yet to edit the images.
I'm having another busy week at work and hope to find some time and enough desire to edit and post these icy photos, after long days at the computer in the office.

Information

All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and my favorite Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM lens.
If you are interested in the image data, I leave all EXIF and IPTC information stored in the pictures.

We have very cold weather at the moment, it's freezing outside, but it's Winter - we just need one or two more layers of clothing 😄

Good morning Zac,

I'm on my way to work (wife's driving) and any heart would freeze at the moment - we have -13 C ❄️

I have had this photo for quite a few weeks on my harddrive now and yesterday I thought it's time for it 😁

Oh yeah, I would run too if I melted and the first thing I'd see would be old Sandals on the wrong feet 🤣

Thank you so much, Zac, I hope you have a great day my friend 😊

Good morning Hannes,

Oh man, -13C sounds crazy cold and I suppose you guys are trussed up in clothing like Christmas Turkeys.
Good thing is that the wife is driving, as you can take frozen photos lol.

It seems that you and I live in extremes, we are extremely hot and you guys are extremwly cold. Marian freaks when it gets to +10C 🤣

Hahaha, maybe I should never have mentioned my beloved sandals to you, as you make it sound very abnormal. I of course see it as totally normal 🤣

Stay warm my friend and take care, please don't go and snuggle up to "somone" for some warmth 🤣

Cheers and thanks!

Well, we are dressed for the winter, but nothing special, because we are only for a few minutes outside. If we'd go for a walk we would certainly wear a cap and gloves 😉

No photos, not even my camera is with me when I go working these days - no time at work and when we drive home I'm only tired and just want to have a rest.

I like the sandals 🤣

Oh man, it is very cold there and I can only admire God for creating our human bodies to acclamitize to any weather conditions. The desert people can live in severe heat and the snow people can live in the icy conditions.

But the way that the weather changes lately, soon most of the African continent will be desert.

Hahaha, what a chirp 🤣
The day that those sandals fall off my feet broken and finito, I will be so heartbroken that I will give them a funeral and bury them in our garden 🤣

Cheers and thanks!

That's right, the weather has become different from what it used to be. When I was a boy we have had tons of snow around the house and the piles of snow have been 3 meters high. It snows about a month later now and only half the amount, I believe.

I loved my old hiking boots, but they have gone the same way as all the other trash. Maybe I should at least have waved a Good Bye when the garbage collectors came and dumped the garbage in the garbage truck 🤣

Only quick replies today - there's a lot to do and I hope I can at least go online again in the evening.
Hope you have a great day in the heat - we have -12 C ❄️

A bit cooler here today my friend, 33C and they say that tomorrow we will have rain.
This planet now not only spins faster, but it is also heating up.
You may never see that deep snow again.

Hahaha, I think that one day you will see the driver of that garbage truck walking around with your old boots on 🤣

Stay warm my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Haha, you say it's getting warmer and our weather forecast says the temperatures will go down to -17 C during the night 😉
So, the frost might grow as high as the snow did back then 🤣

I hope you could get some shelter against the heat today - 33 C is much too hot.

(Edited)

I told you in a previous reply about the shocking weather status in Namibia, a neighboring country that is even hotter that ours. I used to work there in the 80s and it was HH (Hot as Hell).
We have a town here called Phalaborwa right up north where I also worked for a year and you are welcome to have a look at their temperatures.

In Zimbabwe, I had heat exhaustion after 28 hours on the road and also being blocked at the border post in a very long queue, fainted and ended up in hospital. Had to fly back here with a nurse on the flight in case I croaked 🤣

So, in true reality, I can handle the cold much better than the heat, but I don't know if I could handle your extremes.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, Zac, I can handle the cold weather also much better than the heat.
Thanks for the invitation, but if I may choose I decide for our coldness ❄️

So, I say no to HH and yes to cold as ice 😁

We are living here for just over a year now Hannes and yes, it is a beautiful place with everything that we want. Sea, mountains, many lakes, dams and farms and an abundance of wildlife.
When we arrived in the peak of winter and lived in a mud filled small cottage on a farm in the fierce storms, it was not as bad as this heat.

So, we Googled and there is no area in South Africa with a constant 20C temperature. There are no constants and the news is that due to global warming, the heat here at the southern tip of the African continent will increase drastically.
I would say that we are in a very real problem here.
But you know what I will say here 🤣

Cheers and thanks!

You should move to Quito in Ecuador - they have about 20 C almost all year long 🌞

You have the sea, lakes and mountains, all near where you live. That's great, I'd love to have the sea closer, but there's even a border which I can't cross at the moment.
I do hope that the people and the governments start to think and work together to help our earth to get healthy before it's really to late.

Hahaha, nope, I would rather move to a colder place with mountains and sea Hannes.
Yeah I know that you have a border to cross to get to the sea, but in Africa, we at South Africa was the first country to open its borders to all of the countries on the African continent and we were flooded with people that call themselves "refugees".

Although there are few genuine refugees among them, most are not and with them came the drug peddlers and other underworld figures.

This world is very sick my friend in more ways than the Covid and we can only pray.

Cheers and thanks.

Usually the borders across Europe are open too and I certainly could travel, but when coming back I would have problems since all states are in lockdown and in fear of the virus. As soon as the virus doesn't mean a problem anymore I can go from Greece to Finland without being stopped at a border :)

The refugee problem exists here too since 2015, but since the virus arrived here, almost nobody talks about it anymore.

Our borders are very porous Hannes and they leak like a sieve. Some minister, or department had a wire fence built that cost millions and the fence is scrap, as the intruders simply cut it open and enter the country. Now with the Covid, they have the army patrolling the closed borders, but how do you protect a border that is thousands of killometers long?
Either a wall like China that is going to cost astronomical ammounts if you include the corruption costs, or I think a better option would be drones (with night vision cameras) and a squadron of reaction helicopters.

By the time that the virus is over you will have your van with a bed in the back and you can take long trips anywhere methinks 😉

Cheers and thanks!

It's easier here to protect our borders because of our mountains. Of course if you want to get to Austria there are enough ways and many people certainly use these.

So you think the virus will stay for 10 years or even more? LOL

I could do with those icicles to cool off a bit, all the fun of being driven to work in fresh cool air sounds refreshing.

Oh Zac @papilloncharity will let you know later they are 30 deg C today in Cape Town not sure if their howling winds are passing through.

Prohibition over here once again, so on a go slow with both !BEER and !WINE in the fridge! Now another month without alcohol sales to 15th February when the powers that be will talk again, what they call our "family meeting".

Good morning Hannes,

You have it exactly right as late Autumn and early Spring are also my favorite times of the seasons.
Great news is that Harry and Sally flew back in yesterday afternoon.
Sally is her usual coy self as every time when they come back we have to plead with her to come and eat. But Harry is his usuall blustery self and I was scared that he would eat too much.

Btw. I think that I would prefer the snow, but I also love the rain 🤣

Good morning Zac,

busy morning, but the kids will have a nice and sweet surprise :)

d.buzz works like Twitter on the computer. You have 280 characters only, and that's not very much. My comments are longer than that ;) lol
You just click on "Buzz" and in a new window you can make your post - just like you do it on Twitter, and if you check the "post on Twitter" box it opens a new window right after you save your new post. In this window you can edit the Twitter post. That's a nice feature, although I have changed it a little bit ;)

So, I think I will make a d.buzz post from time to time when I have no time and not much to say ;) lol

Good morning Hannes,

I hope that you are enjoying your weekend off and that you are getting much fresh air.

An interesting thing happened last night on D,buzz.
A guy ordered me to stop placing photos of "previous" posts, as he said that I was milking the system.
So I received 10 downvotes.

In my reply I said that it was not previous posts, but rather current (on the same day) posts that everyone also places on Twitter.
He has not replied yet and I want to see what he is going to say.
I might stop using D.buzz, as he spoiled our reputation.

Good evening @Suzana72 🙂

So, your temperatures are going down like ours. That might mean nice looking hoarfrost all around ❄️
