Good morning everyone,

This morning I'm excited to share a slippers my little brother made with my help. It's been a while he's been asking me to teach him how to make shoes but I always thought in my mind that he's to young to learn that kind of skill. How will he cut hard Nora, will he be able to cut straight and neatly? Won't the gum stick to his hands? Those were my concerns and so I refused to teach him but then, whenever I'm making slippers or sandals, he's always around to watch me and unknown to me, he's been picking up some skills.

What made me to change my mind was me seeing a younger boy at a small shop day before yesterday using a filing machine on a slippers. I was surprised and felt guilt in me and so I decided to start teaching him.

Yesterday we worked on this sandal and I was amazed with his skills. He cuts well which is one of the most important skills one need to have before making a shoe. With my teaching and guidance, he applied the Gum well and did 80 percent of the slippers making. He marked on the Nora and cut, he marked on the leather and cut also, gummed it with it lining and tape the edges. He even gummed the upper Nora with the down Nora together perfectly. I only helped him to stich the straps, last the straps and file the edges after the final gumming because he can't use a sewing and filing machine yet.

Below are the pictures I took while he was working:

He is not perfect yet and made couple of mistakes but for a first lesson I think he did well. With subsequent trainings I believed he'd be an exceptional shoe maker.

What do you guys think of his work? Please leave a comment below.
