The knowledge of turning of clay (mud) into pottery has been used right from ages before the development and introduction of metal cooking pots, ceramic pottry was rally the pinnacle of cooking technology. The clay pot can be made of different sizes depending on your choice.
When making a clay pot the first thing you must is your clay. There are different places to get your clay, from riverbanks, creeksor digging down in the ground to a clay layer especially where they are digging well water or bolehole. It can be of different colors like red, white or dark grey. A good clay must be able to be tied in a knot without breaking.

Before making the pot, add some sand or stone dust to temper the clay. Add one part sand or crushed quartz to two parts clay. After blended, the temper and claymix is ready to form pottery. You can make any type of shape or things from it, be it pot, flower vase etc, smoothing it and com pressing it as you go. Then allow it to d briefly until It is a little dry. Place a large smooth stone in the con cavity and paddle the outside of the vessel with a flat pieces of wood.
It compresses the walls of yhe pottery And helps eliminate air bubbles. After put the pottery out to dry for weeks or more and then you can fire it.

Firing your clay

After it has dry for several weeks, the reason for leaving it to dry for so long is to eliminate all but but the bonded water from its delicate walls because it could cause cracks and spoil the work. You have to preheat it because dry pottery can still explode.

So gently warm it and turn the pot near a fire to preheat it. The deep firing pit is good because it can help to control the temperature and minimize shocks. After you can fore thoroughly and it is hot gently place sticks over it and bury it in fire. Once it has been done NOTE don't quickly move it out allow it to cool down completely before moving it from the ashes of fire

Check for cracks and if there are no cracks flick it with your fingernail if it rings like a bell it means it is good but if it did not then means it can be used but it may not last long before it got spoil.
