I LIKE TO WATCH #18 - Sea Gypsies: The Far Side of the World

What happens when you take a patchwork gypsy boat, pull together a motley crew of global adventurers and send them on a crazy 8,000 mile trip at the bottom of the world? Apparently anything and everything! In Sea Gypsies the Far Side of the World, meet German Captain Clemons Gabriel, leading this ragtag group of young bohemian boatmen including our very own David Bowie and set sail with them on The 120 foot Infinity for the trip of a lifetime!

At 70 degrees south, the sea is like an angry beast, with monstrous waves rising up to form a deadly mouth ready to swallow whole any ship foolish enough to enter it's domain. Icy decks and tainted fuel combine with weather cold enough to freeze the milk from a Witches tit and try the luck of any seamen aboard.

Our journey begins in balmy New Zealand, like the calm before the storm and ends in Patagonia, with a stopover in Frosty Antarctica. The crew of 16 hails from all over the world with members coming and going at regular intervals. David is Canadian, Zack hails from Great Britain and the very charismatic Ayack, billed as a "professional sailor/lifestyle critique" is a friendly fan favorite from France.

It was enjoyable taking a break from all things pandemic and following these boys on a great adventure. The narration and music were spot-on and really enhanced the mood of the film. Our story is told by Nico, a native Californian who decided to throw caution to the wind in a search for new possibilities in life and boy did he find them!

Gorgeous shots of the emerald islands, deep blue skies and rugged terrain abound, including standing at the lip of an active volcano. This amazing film was a welcome respite from the troubles of today and made me want to sign up to join the Sea Gypsies and set sail on the next voyage of the Infinity. Watch this film, and you'll want a little taste of adventure yourself. Come on, let's go! :)
