Reflections and Broken Mirrors

avatar

I was watching two people, more than likely a couple, as they were gazing into the pond, their reflections greeting them. I was trying to imagine what they were thinking about. As for me, when I looked down into it, I realize that all of us look at life, in a slightly different way. We are seeing a reflection of who we think we are. I have looked at my own life at times and it has been with a very small mirror, sometimes revealing only the good parts, sometimes covering what I don’t like. If I can’t fix it or cover it, I can always move the mirror, right? Does that make me a hypocrite?

I think we have to compartmentalize the view of ourselves because we are so many things to so many people. We have roles to fill, responsibilities fulfill, and gifts to bestow to meet a wide variety of needs. It's what makes us beautifully complex and wonderfully unique.

The reflection we see of ourselves is viewed through a shattered mirror. A mosaic of interesting pieces that comprise the whole but is rarely viewed with complete accuracy. Fifty people will have fifty separate opinions of who you are, even as a central theme emerges. That's not hypocrisy, that's life.

Who needs to reduce reflection and increase saturation?? I say: Bring it on! Color my world. Life has been good, getting a nice early dose of sunshine before the official blanket of winter is pulled back.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Don't ever forget what a wonderful world we live in, people. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

I think we all start off with a general view of how the world should work and our place in it. Of course reality comes in and has its way with us. I will admit it can make a body feel rather jaded at times.

It can, can't it? But, it is up to us to push that aside and enjoy the little things in life that we have. I can lament all day on what I don't have or what I have done that I wish I didn't, but, I choose to see the bright side, especially on days like this! :))

I hope you will have a great weekend!

Moving the mirror is often what we all need to avoid some of the painful past looking back at us. Sometimes keeping those painful reflections and past hidden, buried, or behind strong walls are all that let's us continue on. Yet, there is value from acknowledging the past pain and letting it help define who we are now, and how we behave. For most, there are still some lessons to learn and wisdom to share before we move on to the next adventure.

We enjoy your sharing, keep it up!

When you put it that way, it doesn't seem like such a terrible thing. I can say that anything that has been put upon me? The lesson is never lost on me. One of the reasons I can let go of some things.

I am glad you enjoy it!! I can say the same of yours! I love your deer!!!

Life is though indeed but we try and adjust and enjoy the best way we can and if we could go back we certainly would do things different but we learn from our mistakes. Great reflections 👍

Most of us do learn and try not to repeat history... Now, if the world would do that, wouldn't this be a wonderful place to live?

All in all, it is still pretty great.

Recently I have been too busy getting through life's challenges to think about who I really am and who others think I am. It would be interesting to find out what a dozen other people think about who I am. Or maybe I'm better off not knowing.

Haha! But, maybe they think better of you than you do! Nope, doesn't matter. You are better off not knowing! You are right!

Alas, how much I like your short posts! I also understand why you write them so short. The result is remarkable.
I, who have always been a few steps behind you, only succeed in long blogs, with a lot of work and time consumption. I want to write like you in the future, especially since in a few days Leo Finance will launch a program for Hive, a kind of Twitter, where I think you will do very well.
