The Day Before We Returned Home

avatar

My husband and I just returned from a very short vacation and it always seems that some kind of drama seems to want to follow me (or us) around. It started off nice enough and most of it was indeed nice enough or, as my husband would say, "at least I'm not at work".

After arriving and getting settled we had to run an errand which left me in a bit of a mood. It seems like every time I try to do something nice that it ends up going wrong. It is never my intention to upset or offend anyone in any way but I feel as though I did just that. I think it wasn't really my fault but I still feel bad. You see I really couldn't do many of the things that I wanted to as I was in a lot of pain for much of the time that I was there. I did do some things and I even walked down to the beach once but it was too cold to even walk along the shoreline as the day I went down a storm had threatened to come in. Most of the time that we were at the ocean you could see a fog of different degrees over the ocean. It was still very pretty so I had no complaints on that. The pain though was especially bad on that first day though and once back to the condo I had to lay down in tears. It really would've helped if among all of the medication that I brought that I wish I had remembered my pain meds. It was what it was and even with that medication I knew that I would be limited as to what I could do.

We did visit Assateague Island one morning and on one day my husband took our son and his girlfriend down to the boardwalk. I had to bow outta' that one too but they all had a good time and I was content to stay at the condo. My son was in Ocean City to celebrate senior week with some friends and he did spend one night with us. Anyway, I'll be showing some nicer photos and such in other posts but getting back to the day before we returned home ... a pretty good storm moved in a little later in the day and dumped a lot of rain and left quite the fog as well!

Additionally, the day before my husband began to have an allergic reaction to something. He broke out in a few hives so he had to go out in the downpour to get some Benadryl which seemed to help.

thedaybefore6-12-2021-5ok.jpg

The key word there was "seemed" because just before midnight the full affects of that allergic reaction became more apparent and he was now covered in hives. So, we both got up and dressed as it surely meant a trip to an urgent care center. The only problem was that we couldn't find one open so we had to go to the hospital ER. Luckily, the fog was not so bad that it was hard to see and towards the hospital it was not as bad either.

He had also lost a lot of fluids so they had to give him an IV and gave him Prednisone and a couple of other meds through the IV. Prednisone will usually work and it did and once the IV was completely gone the hives had noticeably subsided. Not completely but he did feel much better.

He was released with a prescription and was told to follow up with his doctor. Interestingly, I have (still) another follow up from my covid sickness on Monday so he will probably make an appointment while we are there. So, like I said ... more drama! I told him that he should ask the doctor for a Prednisone prescription to keep on hand for times like these. Technically, he should have an Epi Pen which he had one at some point but it is so expired. The Epi Pen is also for more dire situations should he run into it but for now the Prednisone seems to knock less serious reactions out of him. We did finally make it home okay although it rained heavily most of the way. Now, we just may need a vacation from our vacation but "at least he wasn't at work"! 😏

Hello @deerjay
Epi Pens are expensive but probably cheaper than the E.R. visit.
I've had them in my first aid kits for many years. A fair number of family members are allergic to bee stings to merit it. When I was a restaurant manager I had to use an Epi Pen on a customer. She was a regular at the hotel and gave me two of them to keep handy in case she ate something with onions in it. One day she did. I'm lucky enough to have a connection in the medical industry and now I just get 50 ml vials of Epinephrine. Thanks be I'm not allergic to many things so I've never had to use it myself.
So sorry to hear your still not feeling well =( hope you start feeling better soon.
Also I've had trips go wrong but damm.. After all the crap of the last couple years I'd be inventing new and improved cuss words by now. lol
I'm taking 5 glorious day off work starting Monday so I hope the gremlins are taking a break <,< >,>

Hi @chromuimone! My husband has several allergies but the worst one is to oranges. Limes, and other citrus is fine but oranges can kill him. He is pretty good at recognizing when there is a problem. We think that possibly there was some kind of cross contamination with something with oranges like maybe he shouldn't have limes with a Corona since it may have been cut on a board with orange or the bartender handled orange right beforehand or could be something completely new. He should have an Epi on hand but I think this may have been a second episode in the last couple of years. Hopefully, his insurance will cover the charges since there really was no place else open. 🙄
I hope you have a gremlin free vacation and have some fun for me too while you're at it! 😁

I'll bet money that it was the limes from the bar.

I used to bar tend and not only were the oranges cut on the same board with the same knife they are also stored in the bar's garnish try next to each other. Once they start using garnishes, they get busy and wile restocking the garnishes you'll get limes falling into the orange tray and the oranges falling into the lime try. Even filling a tray with limes that had oranges in it is very possible the juice from the oranges still in the bottom.

I'll try and have enough fun for the both of us this week.
It's not off to a great start... Left work today at 3 pm and it promptly started raining O.o supposed to rain tomorrow too... So much for the Marsh photo session tomorrow =/ camera. is not weather sealed. I guess I could bag it.
Wednesday turns me 56 yrs old... also a semi depressing thought.
But I will have lots of fun or go broke trying @deerjay.

Happy Birthday @chromiumone!! 🎉🎂🎉
I'm just a few years older and know what you mean. I sometimes wonder if "this" is how my parents felt at this age. Thinking about days past and future possibilities. It feels like a strange time to be alive with the world being in the state that it's in. Lol..I hope that you don't go broke but I do wish you lots of fun...and better weather! 😉💕

Dear Dee, it seems if anything can go wrong it will. I’m sorry you are still not feeling up to par and your husband had the allergic reaction.

At least you and your hubby got away for a few days. This kind of trip with ER visits and fog makes one appreciate being home.

Hope you both are feeling much better now.💕

Thanks so much Jo!! Yeah, he had it worse with that allergic reaction but as he said....! I've been in a lot of pain recently but more of the regular ailments so I couldn't walk far. Every time I've had a follow-up it's come back with still "stuff" in my lungs but, hopefully, they should be clear now. I feel mostly back to normal as far as the covid although I still get a smell that I associate with it every now and then. We did get a couple of nice days to get out and do a few things. The condo belongs to a good friend of his and it happened to be empty that week so he let us use it. Hubby felt a lot better once he got the Prednisone and is going to ask the doctor for a dose packet to keep handy. I was happy to get home. I can't handle extremes in temps anymore. I would say I missed the stupid Cicadas but they have become a bit aggressive as of late. I'm sure unintentional but I tried to get a video and you would laugh Jo! I may upload it anyway but time is just getting away from me. I did have a laugh yesterday when going into the supermarket and a buzzer flew into my husband..lol. He swatted it away and it flew at me but I ducked just in time. I'm still laughing just telling it. 😂 💕

Haha Dee, I’m glad you ducked in time. The video of the cicadas should be a hoot.

Good that your lungs will eventually clear from the covid-19 and your husband is feeling better. You still have a great sense of humor and that will get you through almost anything,

Take care and keep well.❤️

Thanks so much Jo!! Lol..it seems the Cicadas were not quite as loud today and there are many laying dead on the ground so I guess they will be gone soon. I haven't minded there buzzing/singing at all and may even miss them some. I guess they have their time much like every living thing including people. 💖
I haven't heard anything from the doctor and usually they upload results by now so possibly they are on vacation. I feel like I'm back to my old broken self..lol. Yep, I've always been the one in the family to try to make light when there is a squabble. 😊
You too Jo and I hope you are having a wonderful week!! 💞

Oh no @deerjay, you definitely need a holiday to get over this nightmare of a holiday. So sorry it was so unpleasant in so many ways.

That's okay Angie. It wasn't all bad and I don't mind too much staying in a nice place and listening to the waves. The first night was not great as was the last night..lol..just realized that! 🤔💞

Ohh, am sorry all that drama happened and bad weather on top of that, I think you should wipe that holiday of the memory stick and do it again and hopefully it works out better 😊
