On the of the Hinze Dam

avatar

This weekend we were finally traveling again. After almost 3 months on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, we got the offer for a housesit on the Gold Coast and immediately agreed. In addition to our visit to the Springbrook Nationalpark, which we had already visited, we were at a new location this time.

On the way back from the national park we visited the Hinze Dam in Advancetown, a dam that supplies the entire gold coast region with drinking water. I was impressed with the size of the dam and didn't expect anything like that. This dam is worth a visit because it is really powerful and it has been turned into a tourist attraction. There are lots of display boards explaining the dam, there is a cafe and a beautiful park.

But as interesting as everything sounds, I came here to enjoy the supposedly great view. So we grabbed ourself a coffee and started walking across the dam, which you can cross completely on foot or by bike. I have to say that the view was better than expected. In combination with the blue sky and the clouds it looked fantastic.

Even the two kookaburra on the roof enjoyed the view.

The owner of the cafe told me that the clouds usually move faster, which makes it perfect for long exposure. Furthermore, the dam creates yet another natural spectacle. Due to the rise in the water level in the lake, there are now some dead trees in the lake that previously stood on the shore. What looks really impressive from the right angle, unfortunately you only had the best view from the car from the bridge. Nevertheless, I could find a small spot

It is absolutely awesome in real. You have to visit whenever you´re near. Don´t know if there is any other Dam like this in Australia.

It´s truly a great place to visit. I wasn´t expecting such amazing views. These birds are so cool but they´re bigger than they look like and are pretty loud. :)
