A Homely Meal

Today was the first day of lockdown here in our state of West Bengal and I was expecting to just enjoy the off day from work but there was a crazy Hailstorm in the morning and all the smashing noises woke me up earlier than I was planning to. So I did what I had to do, I cooked my Meal earlier than usual.

Usually, I would have cooked Khichdi today as it was cold and rainy so that would have my goto choice but since I bought some veggies yesterday I had to cook them or they would have gone Bad. So for today, I have Rice, Dal, and 3 sides with it.

The Rice and Dal are cooked pretty normally but as for the veggies, I tried something new. I made Mustard Coated Okra which is pretty simple to make but this was the first time I tried so I was worried about the taste. I blanched some Okras in hot and cold water and in midst of that I ground some Mustard Seeds, Poppy Seeds, Salt, and Chillies on a Mixer Grinder to make a fine paste out of it. The next step is just to stir fry them all in a pan and it did turn out ok and by ok I mean a little bitter but I did adjust the taste later on by adding other spices.

As for the second Side Dish I had White Gourd and I just finely chopped them into small cubes and kinda stir-fried them with a lot of Garlic. I wanted to have some extra Garlic on that so I added nothing more to it except for some salt and it did turn out good. Yes, it was garlicky but I wanted that to be that way so that's cool. So that's all there is to my today's Lunch and I will see you guys in my next post.
