¿Cómo es un héroe de verdad? Si hay algo que me ha enseñado Marvel y DC es que los héroes vienen con unos poderes y habilidades de combate increíbles. Hulk siempre fue mi favorito ¿por qué? Es que este hombre de color verde y fuerza desequilibrada anda por el mundo controlando su ira ¿y no es la ira uno de los problemas más recurrentes a los que nos enfrentamos? En fin, la idea es que, a pesar de que Spider-man, Superman, Batman y la Mujer Maravilla son reales únicamente en las historietas y esas películas con demasiado presupuestos, aquí en nuestro mundo real también tenemos héroes, y a veces ocultan muy bien su identidad.

Heroísmo no es necesariamente andar rescatando damiselas de cabello rojo, o sea, son muchas las acciones que nos conllevan a sacar esa lado “bueno, ágil y valiente” de nuestro interior. Ser un héroe va más allá de los súper poderes, porque son nuestras acciones, las conductas y las actitudes las que realmente nos servirán de escudo y de mejor arma para luchar contra los peores villanos del universo: la injusticia, el egoísmo, la intolerancia y el odio. No necesitamos ser el Capitán América para salvar la vida. Esas alegorías de las historietas nos invitan a buscar ese “héroe” en nuestro interior. Quizás no puedas imitar los estupendos movimientos y habilidades de Hulk, pero si puedes orientarte a mejorar el mundo como él lo hace.

Heroism is not necessarily about rescuing red-haired damsels, that is, there are many actions that lead us to bring out that "good, agile and brave" side of ourselves. Being a hero goes beyond super powers, because it is our actions, behaviors and attitudes that will really serve as a shield and the best weapon to fight against the worst villains in the universe: injustice, selfishness, intolerance and hatred. We don't need to be Captain America to save life. Those allegories of the comics invite us to look for that "hero" within ourselves. You may not be able to imitate the Hulk's great moves and abilities, but you can focus on improving the world the way he does.

Ser buenas personas, cultivar la solidaridad y brindar nuestra ayuda a otros son las mejores cualidades que debemos seguir para convertirnos en héroes verdaderos. Y no, no necesitas andar volando por lo edificios y ocultándote bajo un antifaz, déjale eso a Spider-man y Batman. El heroísmo, el de verdad, supone entregar nuestra bondad y empatía como un recurso que genere un cambio positivo. El mal se presenta de múltiples formas, tanto en la contaminación ambiental como en la discriminación, la violencia de género y el racismo. Independientemente del caso, podemos hacerle frente a los villanos que intentan, por ejemplo, contaminar nuestros ríos, violar los derechos de las mujeres o amedrentar culturas y preferencias por medio de la xenofobia.

Ya sabemos que un héroe es una buena persona, sí, pero ¿Qué es lo que lo define? Significativamente, son sus hazañas, ¿Pero cuáles son esas proezas que mueven a los héroes? Muchas veces se tiende a confundir lo extraordinario con lo imposible. Para explicar esto, hagamos una pequeña comparación entre Spider-man y un bombero de esos comunes que andan por ahí apagando las llamas. Ustedes, desde luego, definirán al ganador:

Spider-man tiene poderes increíbles. Puede balancearse por los edificios con sus telarañas, sus reflejos son más nítidos que los de un halcón y su fuerza lo ayuda a detener un tren completo ¿extraordinario no? Pues sí, son grandes las hazañas que este hombre bendecido por las arañas le ha otorgado al mundo, el único problema es que solo existe en las historietas y las películas, las cuales por alguna razón siempre cambian a los actores y todo el meollo de la trama.

Well, yes, the feats that this man blessed by spiders have given the world are great, the only problem is that it only exists in comics and movies, which for some reason always change the actors and the whole kernel of the movie plot.

Los bomberos apagan incendios, arriesgando sus propias vidas para salvar a todos los que estén atrapados en el fuego. También rescatan gatos de los árboles y en algunas ocasiones bailan reggaetón. También tienen fuerza, no al nivel de Spider-man, sin embargo, su destreza, agilidad y capacidad de reacción los convierten en súper humanos. Sus hazañas son increíbles, porque el simple hecho de rescatar vidas los vuelve extraordinarios. They also have strength, not on the level of Spider-man, however their dexterity, agility, and responsiveness make them super human. Their feats are incredible, because the simple act of rescuing lives makes them extraordinary. They are heroes of flesh and blood, facing all kinds of risks and dangers, they demonstrate their goodness, commitment and solidarity with the world. And yes, firefighters appear both in movies and in reality, and they have great costumes. Amazing, right?

Entonces ¿qué héroe es más extraordinario? ¿Spider-man o un bombero? Claro está que el mundo es de realidades, y las mejores proezas no son las que se ven por la televisión en alguna película con estupendos efectos especiales. Las verdaderas hazañas extraordinarias las hacemos cuando demostramos ese grado de compasión y gentileza, además de ética y solidaridad ante quien más lo necesite. Aquí el concepto de heroísmo no es subjetivo con la ficción, porque de alguna manera eso de “ser buenos” puede hacerse hasta no arrojando basura a medio ambiente. Mirando nuestro alrededor y convirtiéndonos en voluntarios en pro de la justicia y las buenas acciones es que podemos erradicar el mal de mundo, el cual se materializa en odio, rencor, egoísmo, prejuicio… etcétera.

So which hero is more extraordinary? Spider-man or a firefighter? Of course, the world is one of realities, and the best feats are not those that are seen on television in some movie with great special effects. The truly extraordinary feats we do when we demonstrate that degree of compassion and kindness, as well as ethics and solidarity with those who need it most. Here the concept of heroism is not subjective with fiction, because somehow that of "being good" can be done even by not throwing garbage into the environment. Looking around us and becoming volunteers for justice and good actions is that we can eradicate the evil of the world, which materializes in hatred, resentment, selfishness, prejudice... and so on.
