¿Cuánto cuesta un trago de ron? Pues, cuando de adicción se trata nos cuesta la vida. Aun así, la ironía de la historia relata por si misma el hecho de que hoy en día las cifras de alcohólicos no parecen disminuir. ¿Cómo es que algunas personas caen es esto? ¿Hay una salida al alcoholismo? ¿Puede un líquido amargo y con propiedades etílicas condenar almas?
How much does a shot of rum cost? Well, when it comes to addiction it costs us our lives. Still, the irony of the story itself relates to the fact that alcoholic numbers today do not seem to decline. How come some people fall is this? Is there a way out of alcoholism? Can a bitter liquid with ethyl properties condemn souls?
Hace unos días me topé con un vagabundo que, con una botella de ron en la mano, insultaba a la vida por sus desgracias. Lloraba para luego bailar, saltaba para luego gritar. Yo lo observaba atentamente, pensando que sus delirios eran provocados por las propiedades delirantes del alcohol. Sin embargo, también noté que de alguna manera se estaba desahogando, pasando sus penas abatido en la falta de sus sentidos cuerdos.
A few days ago I came across a homeless man who, with a bottle of rum in his hand, was insulting life for his misfortunes. He would cry and then dance, jump and then scream. I watched him carefully, thinking that his delusions were caused by the delusional properties of alcohol. However, I also noticed that he was somehow venting, passing his sorrows dejected at the lack of his sane senses.
Claro que sí, “me dije”, este pobre hombre utiliza el ron para de alguna manera desahogarse. Es obvio que mientras él esté acompañado de la sombra de la borrachera, poco podrá recordar o sentir lo que lo hace sufrir ahora. Deduje, además, que las penas de su alma eran consoladas con los actos ridículos que la botella de ron le proporcionaba.
Of course, "I told myself", this poor man uses rum to somehow vent. It is obvious that while he is accompanied by the shadow of drunkenness, little will he be able to remember or feel what makes him suffer now. I also deduced that the pains of his soul were consoled with the ridiculous acts that the bottle of rum gave him.

Sin duda, aquel vagabundo era una víctima más del mal de alcohol, una enfermedad que carcome los sentidos y los hace vulnerables. Él sofocaba sus penas, sí, ¿pero a qué costo? Su soledad lo ayudaba a fomentar el vicio, y sus desgracias lo hincaban cada vez más a beber de la botella.
Undoubtedly, that vagabond was one more victim of the evil of alcohol, a disease that eats away at the senses and makes them vulnerable. He suffocated their sorrows, yes, but at what cost? His loneliness helped him foment vice, and his misfortunes drove him more and more to drink from the bottle.
Así son las adicciones, lamentablemente, se apegan a las almas incomprendidas, solitarias y atormentadas por el sufrimiento. De por sí, el ron o el vino, o el whisky, o la ginebra, o el tequila, son simplemente instrumentos para saciar las ganas de olvidar. Claro que muchos saben controlar estas bebidas, pero otros no pueden hacer lo mismo…
This is how addictions are, unfortunately, they attach to misunderstood, lonely and tormented souls. In themselves, rum or wine, or whiskey, or gin, or tequila, are simply instruments to satisfy the desire to forget. Of course, many know how to control these drinks, but others cannot do the same...
Incluso, la adolescencia es el momento más vívido para caer en las borracheras. Los jóvenes sin responsabilidades sin duda querrán olvidarse de las pocas que tienen, y como si fuera poco, hay familias donde el beber alcohol es una costumbre que debe pasar por los hijos… ¿una locura no?
Even adolescence is the most vivid time to get drunk. Young people without responsibilities will undoubtedly want to forget the few they have, and as if that weren't enough, there are families where drinking alcohol is a habit that must pass through the children… is it crazy, right?

¿Y cuáles son los efectos? bueno: la muerte y la violencia. Bajo el estado de ebriedad el individuo pierdo los sentidos, y es claro que comenzará a romper con su propia ética –si es que la tiene- para golpear a su mujer, a sus hijos, manejar imprudentemente un auto y hasta provocar accidentes.
And what are the effects? good: death and violence. Under the drunken state the individual loses his senses, and it is clear that he will begin to break with his own ethics - if he has any - to hit his wife, his children, recklessly drive a car and even cause accidents.
El alcohol es como una mala hierba, si no se corta bien nunca se elimina. Los casos de adictos a las bebidas alcohólicas deben tratarse con cuidado, visitar a los especialistas indicados e iniciar terapias. El apoyo familiar debe estar de por medio siempre, porque mientras más unión y amor haya, más ganas tendrá el individuo de cambiar el estilo de su vida.
Alcohol is like a weed, if it is not cut well it is never eliminated. The cases of addicts to alcoholic beverages should be treated with care, visit the indicated specialists and start therapies. Family support should always be in the middle, because the more union and love there is, the more the individual will want to change the style of their life.
Si notas que eres débil ante el alcohol, entonces pon de tu parte y dale un alto antes que sea demasiado tarde…
If you notice that you are weak to alcohol, then do your part and stop it before it is too late ...
Y no es que yo diga que no se pueda beber algo de vino, pero, como lo dice ese popular dicho “todo en exceso hace daño” Y si todos comprendiéramos ese moraleja, tal vez las cosas fueran distintas. Es preferible sufrir por dejar una adicción que sufrir por perder la vida… ¿no lo crees?
And it's not that I say that you can't drink some wine, but, as the popular saying says "everything in excess hurts" And if we all understood that moral, maybe things would be different. It is preferable to suffer from quitting an addiction than to suffer from losing your life... don't you think?
