Today I want to share some FAN ARTS that I have done regarding movies. For those of us who illustrate, films are an important part of our training, because while we enjoy the plot and get involved in the atmosphere of the film, we are also appreciating proportions, perspectives, lighting and color palettes. That is why I have decided to share the fan arts that I have made of some movies that I like and how these have influenced a little in my style as an illustrator.

Hoy quiero compartirles algunos FAN ARTS que he hecho respecto a películas. Para quienes ilustramos, las películas forma una parte importante de nuestra formación, porque mientras disfrutamos la trama y nos envolvemos en la atmósfera del film, también estamos apreciando proporciones, perspectivas, iluminación y paletas de colores. Es por ello que he decidido compartir los fan arts que he hecho de algunas películas que me gustan y cómo éstas han influenciado un poco en mi estilo como ilustradora.

Studio Ghibli:

The fireflies's grave / La tumba de las luciérnagas

This is perhaps the most moving film I have ever seen. It is a view of war very different from what Hollywood has accustomed us. War movies make me sick, especially because of the manipulation of history. However, the grave of the fireflies offers us a vision of childhood about war: pain, love, brotherhood and death are topics that are constantly touched on, but above all the fact that nobody wants to suffer a war, and that those who suffer it only want it to end. On an aesthetic level, this film taught me that no matter how realistic the line is, a real and sensitive story can be told with the simplest illustrations.

Esta es quizás la película más conmovedora que he visto en mi vida. Es una mirada sobre la guerra muy distinta a la que hollywood nos tiene acostumbrados. A mi me enferman las películas de guerra, sobre todo por la manipulación de la historia. Sin embargo, la tumba de las luciérnagas nos ofrece una visión de la infancia sobre la guerra: el dolor, el amor, la fraternidad y la muerte son temas que se tocan constantemente, pero sobre todo el hecho de que nadie quiere sufrir una guerra, y que quienes la sufren solo desean que esta acabe. A nivel estético esta película me enseñó que no importa que tan realista sea el trazo, una historia sensible y real puede ser contada con las ilustraciones más sencillas.

I love this other movie by studio Ghibli, it has a halo of magic that is lost while Kiki does everyday things, but this magic lives inside her and she can recover it at any time, she just has to explore deep inside her being .

Esta otra película de studio Ghibli me encanta, tiene un halo de magia que se va perdiendo mientras Kiki realiza cosas cotidianas, pero esta magia habita en su interior y puede recuperarla en cualquier momento, solo tiene que explorar en lo más profundo de su ser.

From Kiki's delivery service I loved the fact that dressed in dark colors the character doesn't have to be dark.

De Kiki's delivery service me encantó el hecho de que, vestida con colores simples u oscuros, el personaje no tiene por qué ser oscuro.

Wednesday Adams. Adams family / Merlina Adams, La familia Adams

My favorite family on tv. I loved this film about an unconventional family who take everyday danger to the most irrational limits. From the Adams family I love the fact that Wednesday does not have an expressive face, but on the contrary very neutral. This movie has inspired me to make neutral faces and very black hair that frame the face.

Mi familia favorita de la tv. Me encantaba esta película sobre una familia poco convencional que llevan el peligro cotidiano hasta los límites más irracionales. De la familia Adams me encanta el hecho de que Wednesday no tiene un rostro expresivo, sino por el contrario muy neutro. Esta película me ha inspirado a hacer rostros neutros y cabellos muy negros que enmarcan el rostro.

Lost in translation / Perdidos en Tokio

A movie about everyday life, loneliness and especially the right to privacy. This movie has very delicate scenes, where its characters have the right to have secrets that you do not know. From this film I like to take its narrative dynamic and its colors.

Una película sobre cotidianidades, soledades y sobre todo el derecho a la intimidad. Esta película tiene escenas muy delicadas, donde sus personajes tienen el derecho de tener secretos que tu desconoces.
De esta película tomaría su tiempo narrativo y sus colores. Hice este fan art con estilo anime, y me encantó.

The great Gatsby / El gran Gatsby

A book that directly influenced me in terms of narrative. A story about the American dream and its dark side (probably the only side it has) written long before this term was created, making Scott Fitzgerald a discoverer of the behaviors of the society in which he developed. Both the book and the movies respect color and its meaning within the story. From them I have learned the impotence of color psychology to express emotions beyond words.

Un libro que me influenció directamente en cuanto a la narrativa. Una historia sobre el sueño americano y su lado oscuro (seguramente el único lado que tiene) escrita muchísimo antes de que éste término se creara, lo que convierte a Scott Fitzgerald en un descubridor de los comportamientos de la sociedad en la que se desenvolvía. Tanto el libro como las películas respetan el color y su significado dentro de la historia. De ellos he aprendido la importancia de la psicología del color para expresar emociones más allá de las palabras.

And last but not least, Her. I adore this film, which touches loneliness, the illusion of loving what we have built in our heads, which we have idealized to the point of making it our reality. A film with futuristic themes and a vintage aesthetic that makes me love the costume design, a color palette so careful chosen that its photography direction almost eliminate the color blue on the shots. From this film I take the color palette, the minimalist aesthetics and in some way the fact that we can represent something without being faithful to its proportions, that is why this fan art has a very different style than what I usually do.

Y por último, pero no menos importante, Her. Adoro esta película, que toca las soledades, sobre la ilusión de amar aquello que hemos construido en nuestra cabeza, que hemos idealizado hasta un punto de convertirlo en nuestra realidad. Una película con temas futuristas y una estética vintage que me hace amar el diseño de vestuario, una paleta de color tan cuidada que su dirección fotográfica eliminó casi por completo el color azul. De esta película tomo la paleta de colores, la estética minimalista y de alguna manera el hecho de que podemos representar algo sin ser fiel a sus proporciones, es por eso que este fan art tiene un estilo muy diferente a lo que hago habitualmente.
