Debris condivide con Fringe un mix di verticalità e orizzontalità.
Se da un lato è chiaro che la serie voglia raccontare una storia di ampio respire, è pur vero che essa sembra volerci restituire una sorta di "caso settimanale" (per dirla alla Law & Order), nel solco di quella tradizione generalista che mira ad accontentare gli spettatori meno esigenti.
Ma la serie di Wyman è anche spiccatamente votata al mistero e riesce a costruirlo degnamente e con una struttura che ricorda appieno quella della serie con protagonista Anna Torv.
Doppigiochi ai piani alti, personaggio misterioso, organizzazione non nota che si muove dietro le quinte, protagonisti apparentemente freddi e monodimensionali ma in realtà fucina di drammi ed eventi umanamente importanti che già nei primi episodi fanno capolino, quasi a sottolineare l'esigenza di dover empatizzare con loro costi quel che costi.
E poi c'è lo scenario sci-fi a fare da sfondo, non uno scenario alla Raised By Wolves, nè tantomeno alla Westworld ma un qualcosa di più leggero, comprensibile ma, al tempo stesso, ammiccante.
Debris è dunque un bel prodottino che non convince del tutto ma che merita una chance. Nella migliore delle ipotesi potrete vederlo comodamente nella top 30 dei SerialFiller Globes 2021, nella peggiore potreste dimenticarvi di questo titolo sin dalla prossima estate.
E' sicuramente un'altra testimonianza di quanto la fantascienza stia tornando alla riscossa, ponendosi in pole position, insiema al genere dramedy, come l'ambito più interessante in prospettiva nel panorama seriale.

Debris shares with Fringe a mix of verticality and horizontality.
If on the one hand it is clear that the series wants to tell a wide-ranging story, it is also true that it seems to want to give us a sort of "weekly case" (to quote Law & Order), in the wake of that generalist tradition that aims to satisfy the less demanding viewers.
But Wyman's series is also distinctly devoted to mystery and manages to build it up with dignity and with a structure that fully recalls that of the series starring Anna Torv.
Double games at the top, a mysterious character, an unknown organization that moves behind the scenes, protagonists seemingly cold and one-dimensional but actually a breeding ground for drama and humanly important events that already in the early episodes peep out, as if to emphasize the need to empathize with them at all costs.
And then there is the sci-fi background, not a Raised By Wolves scenario, nor Westworld but something lighter, understandable but, at the same time, winking.
Debris is therefore a nice little product that does not convince completely but deserves a chance. In the best case scenario you can comfortably see it in the top 30 of the SerialFiller Globes 2021, in the worst case you could forget about this title since next summer.
It's definitely another testament to how science fiction is making a comeback, putting itself in pole position, along with the dramedy genre, as the most interesting prospective field in the serial landscape.

Si por un lado está claro que la serie quiere contar una historia amplia, también es cierto que parece querer darnos una especie de "caso semanal" (por decirlo como Law & Order), en la estela de esa tradición generalista que pretende satisfacer a los espectadores menos exigentes.
Pero la serie de Wyman también está claramente dedicada al misterio y consigue construirlo dignamente y con una estructura que recuerda plenamente a la de la serie protagonizada por Anna Torv.
Dobles juegos en la cúpula, un personaje misterioso, una organización desconocida que se mueve entre bambalinas, unos protagonistas aparentemente fríos y unidimensionales pero que en realidad son caldo de cultivo de dramas y sucesos humanamente importantes que ya en los primeros episodios se asoman, como para enfatizar la necesidad de empatizar con ellos a toda costa.
Y luego está la escenografía de ciencia ficción de fondo, no un escenario de Raised By Wolves, ni de Westworld sino algo más ligero, comprensible pero, al mismo tiempo, con guiños.
Por lo tanto, Debris es un pequeño y agradable producto que no convence del todo pero que merece una oportunidad. En el mejor de los casos se puede ver cómodamente en el top 30 de los Globos SerialFiller 2021, en el peor podría olvidarse de este título desde el próximo verano.
Es, sin duda, otro testimonio de cómo la ciencia ficción está volviendo, colocándose en la primera posición, junto con el género dramático, como el área de perspectiva más interesante en el panorama de las series.

Mais la série de Wyman est aussi distinctement consacrée au mystère et parvient à le construire dignement et avec une structure qui rappelle pleinement celle de la série mettant en vedette Anna Torv.
Des jeux doubles au sommet, un personnage mystérieux, une organisation inconnue qui agit dans les coulisses, des protagonistes apparemment froids et unidimensionnels mais en réalité un terrain propice aux drames et aux événements humainement importants qui, déjà dans les premiers épisodes, se font jour, comme pour souligner la nécessité d'éprouver de l'empathie pour eux à tout prix.
Et puis il y a le décor de science-fiction en arrière-plan, pas un scénario à la Raised By Wolves, ni Westworld mais quelque chose de plus léger, compréhensible mais, en même temps, un clin d'œil.
Debris est donc un petit produit sympathique qui ne convainc pas complètement mais qui mérite une chance. Dans le meilleur des cas, vous pouvez confortablement le voir dans le top 30 des SerialFiller Globes 2021, dans le pire des cas vous pourriez oublier ce titre depuis l'été prochain.
Il s'agit là d'un autre témoignage du retour en force de la science-fiction, qui se place en pole position, avec le genre dramatique, comme le domaine de perspective le plus intéressant dans le paysage sériel.
