Way to go on building your deck. Hopefully you get to where you need to. I am trying to do a similar thing, build a deck rather than saving all the cards I hold. Stinks though because recently I sold away many gold foil beta Rexxie cheap only later to find out they triple to quadruple in price. FML.

The risk is exactly what you described but like you I preferred to increase my strength in battle because for several seasons I had not advanced in the rankings.
I hope I made the right choice :)
