     Hoy, 15 de febrero, un día después del día de San Valentín. Día comercial de los enamorados o del amor y la amistad. Lunes de Carnaval... mi esposa y yo salimos a dar un paseo por el Municipio Chacao, del Estado MIranda, Venezuela. La sorpresa fue que las calles estaban prácticamente vacías, la mayoría de los comercios cerrados, soledad y silencio. La alegría de tiempos pasados quedó solo en el recuerdo de los que tuvimos la dicha de disfrutar un día como hoy de las fiestas carnestolendas. Atrás quedaron las carrozas, los colores, los disfraces, pitos, golosinas, sambas, la música alegre alusiva a la fecha, bailes en honor al rey Momo, gente disfrutando, alegres y felices... hoy todo lo que percibimos en el Municipio Chacao fue un ambiente sombrío.

Today, February 15, one day after Valentine's Day. Commercial day of lovers or love and friendship. Carnival Monday ... my wife and I went for a walk through the Municipality of Chacao, of the State of MIranda, Venezuela. The surprise was that the streets were practically empty, most of the shops closed, loneliness and silence. The joy of times gone by was left only in the memory of those of us who had the joy of enjoying a day like today during the carnival festivities. Gone are the floats, the colors, the costumes, whistles, sweets, sambas, the joyful music alluding to the date, dances in honor of King Momo, people enjoying, joyful and happy ... today everything we perceive in the Municipality of Chacao it was a gloomy environment.

     Ante aquella soledad e inusual silencio y tomando en cuenta la inseguridad, nos dio miedo sacar el teléfono para tomar fotografías en nuestro paseo de enamorados. Mi esposa y yo, jóvenes de espíritu y muy enamorados pero que ya no somos unos muchachos, decidimos caminar hasta el Centro Comercial Sambil, el cual era el único que estaba abierto y con poca afluencia de visitantes para resguardarnos de la soledad de las calles.

Faced with that loneliness and unusual silence and taking into account the insecurity, we were afraid to take out the phone to take pictures on our love affair. My wife and I, young at heart and very in love but we are no longer boys, we decided to walk to the Sambil Shopping Center, which was the only one that was open and with little influx of visitors to protect ourselves from the loneliness of the streets.

     Creemos que la soledad y el silencio que encontramos hoy se debe a la nostalgia de muchos al ver a nuestro país triste, empobrecido, casi destruído y en medio de la peor hiperinflación y crisis; así como el miedo causado por el Covid19 que ha obligado a la población a vivir una cuarentena interminable. Lo cierto fue que ella y yo, agarraditos de manos, con nuestro tapabocas respectivo, la pasamos muy bien porque el ambiente lo hacemos nosotros. Nuestro principal motivo de alegría es estar juntos. Llegada la tarde decidimos regresar a la seguridad de nuestro hogar, felices porque estuvimos compartiendo juntos todo el día, solos ella y yo, dos enamorados, no tan muchachos, pero con la energía juvenil del amor.

We believe that the loneliness and silence that we find today is due to the nostalgia of many to see our country sad, impoverished, almost destroyed and in the midst of the worst hyperinflation and crisis; as well as the fear caused by Covid19 that has forced the population to live an endless quarantine. The truth was that she and I, holding hands, with our respective masks, we had a great time because we make the environment. Our main reason for joy is being together. In the afternoon we decided to return to the safety of our home, happy because we were sharing together all day, just her and I, two lovers, not so young, but with the youthful energy of love.

     Este hermoso espacio fue diseñado por el arquitecto Arthur Kahn. El urbanista Luis Roche, uno de los mayores constructores de su época, fue quien la construyó.

This beautiful space was designed by architect Arthur Kahn. The urban planner Luis Roche, one of the greatest builders of his time, was the one who built it.

Fue construida a principio de la década de 1940 e inaugurada el 11 de agosto de 1945 con el nombre de "Plaza Altamira". Posteriormente su nombre cambió a Plaza Francia luego de un convenio entre las ciudades de Caracas y París para tener una Plaza Francia en Caracas y una Plaza Venezuela en París. It was built at the beginning of the 1940s and inaugurated on August 11, 1945 with the name "Plaza Altamira".
