A few weeks ago, together with my family, we made an excursion to the island of Favignana, a small island in the Egadi Islands, which is actually the largest of the archipelago, in Sicily. Although the period is not the best and Covid fear has never been underestimated, we have decided to give ourselves a little relaxation, taking advantage of the favorable situation.
We were also pushed to travel by the state incentive that allowed us to fully enjoy some beautiful Sicilian sunny day.
What has amazed us since the arrival at the port, during the journey by ship, is the beauty of the sea: the colors of blue, green, intense blue alternate in an enchanting way and one is mesmerized by the magnificent play of colors that characterizes the waters of the whole archipelago. The water is so transparent that you can observe the bottom without the need for masks, despite the depth being several meters.
A great variety of fish and marine organisms can be observed from the boat, a traffic of fish moving almost everywhere, in all directions, in an orderly way, in long lines.
Once at the port, you have direct access to the historic center of the city, in the past characterized by shops and activities related to fishing, the first resource of the inhabitants, now overtaken by tourism that every year welcomes thousands of visitors to its streets and beaches.
An incredible panorama can be seen from the port: the castle of Santa Caterina stands on the top of a mountain, a guardian who watches over the entire island. Today the castle is a ruin but in the past it was built by the Saracens as a watchtower against the enemies that came from the sea. The point is really strategic and the distance from the port is considerable. It is possible to visit the castle along an internal road with considerable slopes if you want to go by bike.
Despite the period, there is a substantial presence of tourists, although we have confirmed a marked decline especially by foreign tourists, such as Americans, the great absentees of this summer.
The activities of the center are still full of tourists on this day and walking the streets is really pleasant, although the sun makes its presence felt incessantly. The island has many free beaches to use to enjoy the sea: there are sandy, pebble and rocky beaches, depending on the tastes of bathers.
A scent of food is present in the city and it is impossible not to stop and eat some good arancino, my weak point (I have lost count of the exact number of arancini devoured) but all Sicilian food is really delicious.
During our boat excursion, we had lunch on board, as we circumnavigated the entire island. Really lovely, it feels like you are in Heaven were it not for all the tourists whispering. The boat stopped in some parts of the coast, allowing us to dive into the blue of the fresh waters! What a pleasure!
Unforgettable day, the Egadi islands are truly an earthly paradise in which to take refuge to enjoy nature and the sea. I hope that through these photos I will be able to convey a little bit of the beauty of Favignana and the nature that surrounds it 😍

Qualche settima fa, assieme alla mia famiglia abbiamo fatto una escursione nell'isola di Favignana, una piccola isola delle Egadi, in realtà è la più grande dell'arcipelago, in Sicilia. Sebbene il periodo non è dei migliori e il timore Covid non è mai stato sottovalutato, abbiamo deciso di regalarci un po' di relax, approfittando della situazione favorevole.
Siamo stati spinti al viaggio anche dell'incentivo statale che chi ha permesso di goderci appieno qualche bella giornata di sole siciliana.
Ciò che ci ha stupito sin dall'approdo al porto, durante la tratta in nave, è la bellezza del mare: i colori azzurro, verde, blu intenso si alternano in modo incantevole e si rimane ipnotizzati dal magnifico gioco di colori che caratterizza le acque di tutto l'arcipelago. L'acqua è talmente trasparente da poter osservare il fondo senza necessità di maschere, nonostante la profondità sia di diversi metri.
Una grande varietà di pesci e di organismi marini si osserva dalla barca, un traffico di pesci che si spostano un po' ovunque, in tutte le direzioni, in modo ordinato, in lunghe file.
Giunti al porto, si ha un accesso diretto alla centro storico della città, in passato caratterizzato da botteghe e attività inerenti alla pesca, la prima risorsa degli abitanti, oggi sorpassata dal turismo che ogni anno accoglie migliaia di visitatori nelle sue strade e spiagge.
Un incredibile panorama si nota dal porto: il castello di Santa Caterina erge sulla cima di un monte, un guardiano che veglia sull'intera isola. Ad oggi il castello è un rudere ma in passato fu costruito dai Saraceni come Torre di guardia contro i nemici che giungevano dal mare. Il punto è davvero strategico e la distanza dal porto è notevole. È possibile visitare il castello percorrendo una strada interna con pendenze notevoli se si vuole andare in bici.
Nonostante il periodo, vi è una presenza sostanziosa di turisti, sebbene ci hanno confermato un calo vistoso soprattutto da parte di turisti stranieri, come gli americani, i grandi assenti di questa estate.
Le attività del centro sono comunque piene di turisti in questa giornata e camminare per le strade è davvero piacevole, sebbene il sole faccia sentire la sua presenza incessantemente. L'isola ha molte spiagge libere da utilizzare per poter godersi il mare: ci sono spiagge in sabbia, a ciottoli e scogli, a seconda dei gusti dei bagnanti.
Un profumo di cibo è presente in città ed è impossibile non fermarsi a mangiare qualche buon arancino, il mio punto debole (ho perso il conto del numero esatto di arancini divorati) ma un po' tutto il cibo siciliano è davvero squisito.
Durante la nostra escursione in barca, abbiamo pranzato a bordo, mentre circumnavigavamo l'intera isola. Davvero incantevole, sembra di essere in Paradiso se non fosse per tutti i turisti che bisbigliavano. L'imbarcazione si è fermata in alcuni tratti della costa, permettendo a noi di tuffarci nel blu delle acque fresche! Che goduria!
Giornata indimenticabile,le isole Egadi sono davvero un paradiso terrestre in cui rifugiarsi per godersi la natura ed il mare. Spero che attraverso queste foto possa riuscire a trasmettervi in po' della bellezza di Favignana e della natura che la circonda 😍
