Il telefilm è incentrato sulla dura vita di Saul, avvocato con tante difficoltà nell'esercitare la sua professione a causa della particolarità del personaggio e oscurato dalla carriera professionale del fratello, Chuck, cofondatore di un illustre studio legale.

La serie TV si concentra sulla descrizione della complessa figura di Saul, un giovane avvocato che stenta ad emergere e nonostante la vivace parlantina e la scaltrezza nell'appigliarsi ai cavalli burocratici, spesso è costretto a ricorrere a espedienti poco leciti per vincere le sue cause. Alcune puntate sono molto lente perché si soffermano sulla descrizione della psicologia contorta del protagonista e di come questa influisca in modo significativo non solo nella sfera del lavoro ma anche in quella sentimentale.
