STEEMIANS GOING MAINSTREAM

I know we talk about steem going mainstream but how about a steemian going mainstream?

I know there are a few individuals here who were doing fine in terms of creating content and garnering views before joining our blockchain. However, it would be nice to see some of our own dominate the social media sphere or at least the cryptosphere.

One of the trending videos on the steem blockchain currently has 7view on YouTube. It's was actually a video cross-posted from YouTube to dtube. 7 views.

Who would you consider a top content creator on steem and do they fit into the mainstream narrative?

This is a hard call. There are very few people who I consider to be top content creators or even average and none of them make it to the trending page. This is not to say that those who make it to the top trending spot don't deserve it. The whole socio-financial step-up here is quite complex and it differs from the traditional social media system. Someone who actually garners millions of views might come here and earn little or not whilst a socially awkward individual with millions of steem stake might have higher engagement on their post. The stake is the influence and I don't want to see it as a bad or good thing. It's just a different game which many outside our sphere are not familiar with. But on second thought, this is actually what social media is becoming. Yes, there is a place for talent and social networking but these days I am seeing more people use various monetary incentives to garner views or engagement. For example, giveaways are becoming a thing these days. People give out freebies in exchange for engagement. I dare say that if you give out a couple of dollars each week on Twitter you will see your engagement skyrocket.

But we are giving out steem.

Well, the challenge is that people outside the steem blockchain and the cryptosphere don't use steem for their day to day transactions. Steem is not a currency they know or want sadly. So you as a steemian have the herculean task of convincing people to see the value of the coin.

Steem? What's steem?
Cryptocurrency?
Crypto Exchange?
Oh this is too much for my very large brain

Now, going back to the topic. Would we ever see one of our own go mainstream? Like I said earlier, it is a hard call. Most of the top authors here are steemcentric and it seems to be the most rewarding path to follow honestly.

Personally, I think steem--the social aside of the blockchain might not go mainstream. It most likely will turn into a hub of 50,000-500,000 daily active users, which I consider fair enough to generate some revenue for the blockchain. If our video-based platforms do well, we might see double of that number and probably then we might see some of our own become internet sensations.

Currently, there is a lot to leverage on if you truly want to level-up as a content creator. My guess is that a lot of us here create content because we want to earn steem and not because we enjoy creating content that's why engagement doesn't matter to most us. It's no one's fault really, steem is structured that way.

I think the end goal for every content creator would be to bring value into the steem ecosystem and at some point, we would need to begin to align with the realities of the world around us. It is up to community leaders and curators to change the narrative of steem and most steemians posting habits. I will talk more about this is a video later today.

Which steemian do you think have the capacity to attract more people/viewer based on the quality of their content and their social network?
