The Story Behind Three Thirty Airstrip in Ronda, Cebu, Philippines - Part 2

Hello #hive

Part 1 was all about how my wife and I faced a major setback and how we slowly got back on our feet. We went through a lot in a short time span, searching and finding a suitable land, designing the place, cutting trees, and acquiring all the necessary permits related to our project.

Now it's time for construction!

Once the work started, I regularly went to check on the progress and I documented it by taking pictures and videos. In this part, I'm sharing those pictures with you so you can see how the airstrip slowly came to exist.

April 11th, 2018

There were still some trees to cut but first the runway was delimited.

April 18th, 2018

The backhoe had its first pass already to trace the runway.

April 19th, 2018

The bamboos at the border of the land were cut and burnt so they don't grow back. You can see the beginning of the runway too and the backhoe next to the tree in the middle of the picture.

April 30th, 2018

The runway started to take shape. This is the view from the other end of the land. The Mahogany tree you can see in the previous picture is now gone.
By then the work on the hangar had started but I didn't take any pictures of it.

May 1st, 2018

The foundations of the hangar were done and they were preparing for the columns already.
Some limestone was brought in to lay on top of the runway.

May 5th, 2018

The columns were half poured and the walls in between started to climb.

May 9th, 2018

More progress on the hangar and the runway.

May 15th, 2018

The contours of the windows start to show.

May 18th, 2018

The walls were up to the top of the windows and the construction of the toilet and storage area was about to start. The runway was becoming more obvious.

May 24th, 2018

No major steps but there is still progress 🙂

June 2nd, 2018

Limestone was brought inside the hangar and compacted to prepare for the pouring of the concrete floor slab. The toilet and storage walls were up, the beam was being prepared and the runway started to look like one.

June 7th, 2018

The beam was ready to be poured and the floor was ready for the reinforcements to be laid out.
The orange shed on the last picture was erected by the municipality to store their equipment. The concreting of the road was about to start. We were lucky that it happened at the same time as the construction of the runway and hangar.

June 10th, 2018

The beam was poured and the floor was ready for the slab to be poured.
The municipality started bringing the materials for the construction or the road.

That's it for this post. I'm sorry, it's a lot of pictures but it's hard for me to choose among hundreds. There are still a lot more coming in the next part 🙂
See you then.
