Some film photos from the 1990s
I took these photos on film in the early 1990s, presumably in 1994. In that year the main character of my photos was my little son, I photographed the city less often. But I found some interesting photos when I went through the archives.
The top photo preserved the view of St. Isaac's Cathedral from a huge courtyard on Yakubovich Street. This view has not changed much. But the courtyard is completely renovated, the buildings are freshly painted and you will not find any barrels or incomprehensible metal structures there. The wood is gone, too. This yard had one little-known secret. You could enter the building, go up to the second floor, go to the next staircase, go downstairs and exit onto a parallel street. This passage is now closed.
This iron staircase leads to the second floor, to the artist's studio. The studio is separated from the large apartment, which is entered in the most ordinary way, from the entrance hall. A new entrance and staircase were made from what was available. A little booth upstairs was added a few years later to make life a little easier for the inhabitants of the workshop. It was difficult to get up the stairs in winter, they were blocked with snow and people had to climb the icy steps to enter the studio.
The courtyard on Pisarev Street. The staircase leading to the second floor had been destroyed not long before, and I hurried to take a picture to document at least its trace. But, surprisingly enough, the trail of stairs has not yet disappeared completely.

The first one should become a classic ;) I love the combination.
Thank you very much!
such beautiful pieces are already history. great that you found them and posted them here. interesting to see more from you.
Interesting that I only once visited Saint Petersburg - it was in 1993 and in half-year after this I moved to Israel.
Sadly to say I did not use a camera then. Started my interest in photography after the year 2005. too bad :-)
Thank you very much!
I had a camera and lived in St. Petersburg, but for some reason I didn't take many pictures. Now I regret it, but it's too late:)
i really understand. I lived in south Kasachstan and now regret why i never interested in photography during my youth. I remember the scenes and the beauty of the connection of the ancient old city and the new city with the clay houses and Khrushchev's ugly long buildings. so pity :-)
It seemed that everything around us would remain unchanged forever:)
haha indeed. but nothing stands still and i also too far from there looking for the new/old opportunities
Lovely black and white photography, old architecture, back alleys revealed how people lived.
Little pieces of history, when cameras ran on film we seldom took photo's around the homes, cost of converting was high.
Today each phone has a camera spoiling people for selection and on the go photography @tatdt

Thank you! You're absolutely right, every shot seemed very valuable, we took a long time to choose a scene and angle before we pressed the button:)
Cool!
I love all of these shots!
The B&W makes it look so atmospheric and almost haunted- maybe they are...
And in fact, I think that it looks like these photos were taken in the very early 1900's!
Isn't it?:) The film makes houses and streets look very old. In fact, these landscapes have changed very little:)
And I studied the all of the elements in the photos- the buldings, the background, the things in the background and there's not one thing that I could see in there that looked like it came from 'modern' times either!
