A Castle or a Bridge? - Monomad Challenge

Hail to the Hive!

We have found a nice spot to moor up for a while and as the weather can't make it's mind up if it wants to bucket it down with rain or be hot and sunny then we have decided to stay put for a few more days.

So I went for a little walkabout but in the opposite direction from my last post.

And I can again scratch the itch of my current bridge fetish. This time dual bridges. One a walk over and one a swivel bridge to allow hoeses and such like across.

I have not seen a walk over bridge quite like this so far on our travels and I have to say I love its unique style. It's like castle turrets and as we passed this briefly on the boat the other day I couldn't help but smile and make a mental note to walk back and investigate further.

Even though I have absolutely no need to cross the river I'm going to just because I can't resist the castle tower type doorway and winding steps.

The narrow walkway across is firm and steady.

and from up here you can look down upon the swivel bridge that can be utilised if on hoeseback or for cattle. I doubt its strong enough to take vehicles.

Now the exit on the other side of the canal. This really is a cool little bridge.

From down here I can get a closer look at the swivel bridge also before I return across the castle type bridge and wander back to the boat.

I am hoping the weather starts to clear up soon as this is an area we are keen to explore but the rain keeps coming so I dare not venture far today so back to the boat for me it is.

I'm calling it a bridge, but in reality I can also see a few archers between those merlons atop the towers, firing down on the foe...But that's just me.

Your travels are making you discover discover some stunning site. The bridge looks ancient and good too. Looks like a movie set too.

It's definitely a different one. The canal system is a couple of hundred years old pre dating trains but not ancient so I think maybe someone was having a good time designing this one. Made me smile as we passed under it and I thought I must walk back later and take a photo as it looks like photo gold to me :)
