Yesterday, I was just about to stepping into a pub when I was excused by a woman in her likely in her mid thirties. She had a baby barely 6months old cradled in her arms, her feet totally muddy from long distance walk on bad roads caused by recent climatic downpours and government negligence.

In pidgin she said:

Oga abeg help us with something make we chop, anything. God go bless you and anything wey you use your hands do. We never chop for days now.

Which means:

Sir, please assist us(referring to herself and the baby) with alms so we can afford dinner. God bless you and anything your hands find to do. We haven't had breakfast many days now.

I looked up and while I was contemplating whether or not she was genuine or not I saw the sun setting. Setting on many empty stomachs out there.

So many stomach upsets.

While we rise with the sun at dawn thinking about how to acquire the world and complain that the day was short because we haven't achieved much and even wish we could add more hours to the day, there are many whose only problem is food and shelter over their head.

For this category of people the sunset at dusk is dreaded for an empty stomach under the bridge they call home.
