Trees on White | #monomad Challenge

A couple of days ago, I needed to escape from the gray fog and the rain in town for a while.

Trees on White
#monomad Challenge
Trees on White

As you can imagine, this post is my entry for the #monomad challenge created by @brumest and hosted by @monochromes.
There was not much color in the photos anyway, so I wouldn't even have had to edit them in #monochrome.

Trees on White - white fog, white snow, silhouettes of trees

A little walk in the snow was all I wanted, but I was also hoping that the raindrops would turn into snowflakes when I reach higher altitudes ... and my wish got fulfilled, because it was snowing on the little mountain I was driving up. Not much snowing though, but it was snowing, and that was all I wanted 😁

The fog, which was dark gray down in town, changed to a bit more white and together with the slight snowfall it painted a to me beautiful landscape. Of course, these are no Winter Wonderland photos as you might expect them to be in this time of the year, but more minimalist monochrome landscapes.

Gently Falling

Softly from the sky is falling
Snowflakes white as lilies fair;
Gently to each other calling
As they float down through the air.
Softly, softly, oh so softly!
Do they come from dizzy heights;
Gently, gently, oh, so gently!
Do they lay a blanket white.
Over all the many housetops,
Over shrubs and tall, tall trees,
Over hills and field and meadows,
Hiding stones and restless leaves.

That was all for today. I hope you like these images and you can imagine what a peaceful and silent time such a walk in the snow can be.
While I am writing these lines, it's snowing outside and if I can finish work a bit earlier tomorrow I know what I would like to do 😉

These are lovely minimalist photos, Hannes and a great poem to go with them.

The trees are so delicate looking like a pencil drawing by a snow fairy.🧚‍♂️

I hope your Christmas was wonderful dear Hannes.🤗

In winter, the photographs have their own unique characteristics that cannot be compared with photographs taken at other times of the year. This is the beauty of these photos and nature in general. The nature in your photos always looks great. I like. Thank you very much. I wish you creative success and all the best.

Fabulous color that white is as it makes everything look so clean a fresh.
Enhancing the character of each tree as frozen in time.

Really exceptional photos here my friend!

Blessings to you guys!

Hi Zac,

yeah, the snow makes all look clean and simple / minimalistic and I do really like such scenes, thank you so much.

Yesterday we have got about half a meter snow and it should become more till the weekend they say. I had only half an hour time today for a short walk and hope to get some more time tomorrow.

Good day Zac,

I reply quickly before I go home or better said I want to go for a snow walk.
Yes, we have got a lot of snow and there's more to come they say, but today we have quite a bit of sunshine.

I don't know when I'll be back home today, so I might be online just a little while in the evening, and I'm working tomorrow till next year 😁
... but tomorrow I should have some more time at work because working is over for 2020 🤣

Yay! Good old year's evening Hannes,

It's been one of our busiest days, but it seems that I have got the internet connection sorted out at last a few hours ago.
So I thought that I could at last do all of the replies on Hive, but the phone rang and we had to go out again. A friend's brother in law was operated for brain cancer and they could not remove everything, so they sent him home. He has since gone lame in his legs and he cannot walk anymore.
The old lady where he lives couldn't look after him and she called my friend to come from Johannesburg to fetch him. So of course my friend called me to come and give him advice, as they want to leave at 4am tomorrow morning to travel back to Johannesburg with the sick guy.
It's a very long 18 hour trip and they are going to struggle with the lame guy in the car.

But we have solved it and they will travel in two cars.

I hope that you had your snow walk my friend and I even got time to take the sunset on the ocean tonight.
Your working for the old year should be almost finished 🤣

Happy New Year to you guys my friend!

Good morning from a cold but sunny first day of 2021, Zac,

seems the old year wanted you to be busy that you don't forget it when the new year arrives 😉

I didn't get the snow walk because some other work came in between, but there will be another day to walk in the snow.

The old year is gone and if the young 2021 goes on like it began, we will have sunshine all year long 🌞

Wish you a great start into the new year, Zac 😄

Hi Hannes, bright and sunny over here my friend.
Thankfully the wind is also up and it will make the heat bearable.

Yes, the old year clung on for dear life, but it's finally gone and now we breathe new year air 🙏

You are wise to know that there will always be other opportunities to get shots in the snow. What needs to be done comes first and if it is work, then so be it.

All of the best also to you my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Let's hope the new air doesn't smell worse than the air of the old year.
If so, we should try to clean the air all together 🙂

Hahaha, you joke, but I so wish that we could clean all of the air worldwide.
People started a class action lawsuit about getting sick from the mines close to them and they won the case.
Another evil is the old powerstations that burn tons of coal and I look forward to the day that they don't exist anymore.
South Africa is now very active in the natural electricity generation fields, such as wind farms and Solar energy. Let's hope that it continues to grow.

Cheers and thanks!

A complete lockdown worldwide for much longer than the first lockdown we had might be able to clean a lot, I believe.

Yes, wind and solar energy is growing slowly. Let's hope it continues to grow.

Totally agreed, but everyone here is screaming about lost income and profits.
Alcohol sales are banned, hotel occupation is zero, small businesses close their doors and even the big companies are cutting their staff numbers. I cannot even imagine the economic waste that another 6 months lockdown will do worldwide.
The argument is that life is more important than economics, but what is life if you have nothing to eat?

I think that all coal fired entities will be gone still in our lifetime my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

I think I am a bit unfair because I have a job which I can't lose, but I think after the end of the pandemic or when all have got the vaccine the economy will grow and everybody will be needed again - more work than before ... but that's only the thinking of somebody who don't has much ideas about economics.

I'm living on a continent which might be able to feed Africa with the food we throw away.

Yes, it is great to have secure employment and and you are right that there will be increased work loads. But many are now working from home on the internet and I think that it will remain so after the lockdown.
Of course the estate agents face giant losses, as offices will become vacant.

So amazing always, as there are dire hunger situations all over and yet, people can throw food away. This world needs a wake up call.

Cheers and thanks!

There will always be the ones who win and the ones who lose.

The leftovers from our company cantina have always been collected from local farmers for their pigs, but since the law changed not even giving such food to animals is allowed anymore.

So true and that's why so many people fear change. Covid is changing life and work habits all over the world by force.
We are going to do a "sanitize" on the inside of our car a little later today, as the virus can be transferred by touch and we are all over the place.

I cannot quite undestand that rule, as yes, they are aware that the food might be contaminated, but the farmers can simply boil the food before giving it to the pigs.

Cheers and thanks.

Right, it's not high up, just about 10 minutes upwards, but it's a quiet area where I usually don't meet people.
Slight snowfall and fog were great helpers. I think you should be able to make such photos too if there's fog and snow. I have posted photos of these trees in the past. In the background there are higher mountains 😉

Thanks a lot for your kind comment, @qwerrie 😊

But I don't mind - I'm not so much in parties anyway.

Hi Vincent,

you don't need to be sorry, because I don't mind, I get extra paid and tomorrow is going to be a very easy day and night 😉
The job is just a security job which I do a few times a month, practically taking care of our company's property (watching the entrance and video monitors).

I'm sure to have the time for a short last 2020 post 😉

Wish you the best, Vincent, see you next year 😄

Hi Johann,

It makes sense. Since you are not partying the night away, and there's a job that is paying extra, why not take it right? Your colleagues will be thankful to you for taking their place, so they can go and party. It's a win, win situation and everyone's happy. 🥂😊

Photography is always superb, poem very meaningful as we seldom romanticize arrival of snow.

When snow falls in South Africa we become lunatics, with many driving hours to just see the white fluffy stuff. Ja ja, we lose our heads!

Cheers to 2021 with a toast of !BEER and good wishes.

A walk in the snow is always kind of romantic, at least when you don't walk alone ;)

People lose their heads here too, because if the roads get only a little bit white they forget how to drive a car 🤣 but the more it snows the better it gets, because most who don't need to drive stay at home 😁

There's now !WINE too in addition to the !BEER 😁

My imagination always goes to how quiet the area is when snow falls, walking in the woods would be fun with someone so long as they don't talk, strictly company 😌

Drivers here majority don't know how to drive on wet nor dry roads, very few have vehicles to manage roads where snow falls occur, a 4x4 would be needed more often than not. Then we have taxi's that will take you anywhere if you have nerves of steel...

Will have to look into this !WINE in the New Year, enjoy both depending on mood so for now it will have to be a !BEER

avatar

Of course, That's one more reason why I mostly walk or hike alone and at places where I usually don't meet people ;)

I know, Zac @papilloncharity has told me some stories about the drivers and driving in South Africa 😉

The new !WINE works but the !tan seems not to work, at least not for me.
