What's You Gonna Do?

Yesterday I got my first dose of the (Pfizer) vaccine and so far I haven't grown a tail or felt too bad. My arm is still a bit sore, other than that I had a few hours of achiness and mild fever which were gone when I woke up this afternoon.

I've been trying to avoid thinking about what I might do once covid-19 was less of a consideration, in part because on some level I don't expect things to get better anytime soon. While I have my doubts that vaccination is the end of covid, especially if things keep going the way they appear to be, it does grant a bit of freedom and leeway that have been lacking for a year.

As I was sipping the day's first cup of coffee in the shower (is there a better place for plotting and planning than in the shower?) it occurred to me that in the relatively near future I might be able to do some of the things that have been on indefinite hold since the 'rona reared its ugly head. There's so much that has been in a holding pattern for the last year that deciding what to do and in what order is quite a task.

So what do you plan to do once you don't have to worry about covid as much? I know travel is at the top of my list, I've barely been out of Louisville since March of last year and I'm ready to lay eyes on new places and new faces. Beyond that, there's so much to choose from that I'm having trouble deciding, so drop me a comment with your ideas, I'm hoping to steal some good ideas 😎

I was reading the other day that in polls something on the order of 25% of Americans are planning on not wearing a mask once they're vaccinated, what about you? While I won't shed a tear to hang up my N95s for the last time, I've come to enjoy some aspects of mask wearing and intend to continue with it. I don't know about y'all but there's something about wandering around looking like I'm about to rob a bank that appeals to me. . .

So who is not going to get the vaccine? I'm sure there's some skeptics out there but that is a can of worms I'd rather not open currently. All I'm going to say on the topic is that when this hillbilly was little I got to spend a few weeks in the hospital with meningitis acquired from a vaccine and I still got the damn thing.

I read the other day that by the end of April every adult American who wants one will be able to get the vaccine. I also read that unless things change drastically, by the end of this year only 10% of the developing world will have been vaccinated. I knew those numbers would be bad but until I saw that I didn't realize quite how lucky I was. What's the situation where you are?

With such a disparity in numbers, I suspect that vaccination is more of a reprieve from rather than the end of covid. With only 4% of the world's population here (and I'm skeptical we'll ever all be fully vaccinated) that leaves a lot of opportunity for the virus to mutate and find a way to keep infecting people. I'm not going to be getting my hopes up too much yet but I intend to take full advantage of the time (at least 6 months as of the most recent data I've seen) that the vaccine gives me.

What's you gonna do?

Wassup Jethro? Haven't seen you put one together like this for awhile. Refreshing.

I won't get into the beliefs either cuz in ass truthfulness, none of us knows shit about it.

Plans. We didn't plan on being here this long. I hope planes get back to doing what they do. And I hope there isn't a mandatory vaccine required to board one. That's the only way I'd subject myself to it.

If it wasn't the same businessmen who said cigarettes are good for now saying the vaccine is good for you, I may have slightly more trust in the nameless group behind the scenes than I do now which is relatively zero.

Not much, been trying to do too many things and not getting any of them finished mainly, what about you?

Heh, I smoked cigarettes for over a decade too (although I had no illusions about them being good for me).

none of us knows shit about it

If by us you mean here on hive, I reckon you're not too far off the mark. If you're including the people with way too many letters after their names at NIH and the CDC (some of whom I know and respect) then I would have to disagree. I don't believe a word a businessman says but I do believe the science/data I've personally read (I've had way too much time to read studies and journal articles since covid hit). I share a good deal of your skepticism (I've had one flu shot in my life and I didn't get a choice with that one) but in this case I'm sold.

I don't think that it is the cure-all, end-all for covid but I think it beats the alternative. I suspect 'herd immunity' may be a pipe dream in this case and get the heebie-jeebies any time I hear the word mandatory so you won't get no shit from me if you don't get it 😎

Dude I can remember they wanted to poke us with something in elementary school, I remember the school so it was either kindergarten or first grade. My mother wouldn't let me go. Even my wife has a story about getting something like that done at one time or another.

I've never even had chickenpox, measles, of those are still a thing, none of it. I remember my cousins getting them and being assholes tackling me, rubbing their skin on me, I never got sick.

So although I have no doubts the scientific evidence you read leans heavily toward that evidence. My logical opinion is what's good for me isn't necessarily good for you. Add to that, I absolutely have zero faith in the pharmaceutical industry.

I'd rather not get too deep in this. I've never been vaccinated with anything, ever, and I've never had any of those sickness things everyone else gets.

Johnson & Johnson doesn't alter your DNA as does Pfizer so there's that.

Are you related to Keith Richards? Lol, I have been the same way with the flu shot, only time I ever got it was after making out with a chica that had it.

We all have our ways, I wasn't writing that to change people's minds (this is the internet after all) so much as to see where people stand.

Too late, my mind's changed, I just jumped in line for intravenous eye injections.. it's the latest and greatest thing. Where ya been?!

You know my uncle Keith?

Trippy, right? None of those sicknesses dude. I never had a flu shot or anything either.

intravenous eye injections

Ooh! Now that sounds like fun! Where can I get one?

Uncle you say? Don't really know him but we have some of the same 'friends' 😎

Go wherever you can take some more interesting photographs :)

I'll get vaccinated for sure. I'm in a developing country with an awful health system and I work in retail... I have some misgivings, not because of the vaccines but the newness of the entire situation. I've had relatives on ventilators and they were lucky to make it out alive.
Vaccines for me are still 4-6 months away and I'm somewhere around the middle of the eligibility queue. The vaccine disparities between rich and poor countries guarantee that this thing isn't going away any time soon

That's advice that you don't have to tell me twice!

Retail...you have my condolences. I work in the service industry (restaurants/food delivery) and that's bad enough. Glad everyone pulled through, I had a great uncle that was in similar condition for a while but other than that I am the only one in my family that caught it (and I had no symptoms, just a positive test result).

4-6 months? Yikes! There's some major disparities between health care for the well to do and health care for the poor here but it don't hold a candle to the ones between what we have here and in other countries. Damn. There's some nasty variants kicking around there too, I'm afraid you're right and we're just getting warmed up with. Thanks for dropping by! Stay safe and be well!

happy to you that happy about the decision and that finally, you can feel free and you don't have to worry about covid as much, so I don't want to say you what I have to say and what I'm thinking about... so better don't ask especially me.
beautiful images you got during this walk

you're right. they are trying to make the vaccination must here.
and when something is must, especially something that authorities force us to follow, I'm always against it. Some restaurants, museums, theatres, and the music allies proclaimed the entry with the only green passport. WTF? Of course, there are many who said - no way - we are open for everyone. There is a site "weareopen dot co dot il" where is possible to find the lists of the resisters these directives from the authorities. From the next week, the universities will be open for only vaccinated students. OMG - discrimination is on the face bro. And you say now "black lives matter"?
I say ALL LIVES MATTER.

I'm the same way. If our recent election had went a bit differently I suspect that there would be a whole lot more skepticism and hesitancy here too.

I don't know how the laws are there but here I could almost understand businesses doing that from a liability standpoint. We've had people shot and killed for trying to enforce a mask mandate here so I kinda doubt they'll even attempt that in the US. Those kind of restrictions don't even make sense though, it would only be the unvaccinated at risk and if they still want to, that's on them and doesn't really affect those that's gotten the jab.

I say ALL LIVES MATTER

Just as long as you don't say that too loudly around these parts, it might get you lumped in with some people you'd rather not be grouped with. (We've had to explain many times that 'Black Lives Matter' isn't saying that all lives don't matter, just that black lives are more in danger here presently. They've also suffered a disproportionate share of covid deaths as well here)

You're right that "only be the unvaccinated at risk" exactly like at risk the people who do not eat healthily, do not exercise, and do not lead a healthy lifestyle - all they are, actually the most ppl on the earth are at risk to die from something else, not nicer then Covid or to stay disabled the whole life. But this discussion can be very long you just asked in your post what we are thinking about the vaccination :-)
Hope you're doing well.
I was in Jerusalem today together with my younger son. Photographed together, walked, had some nice food and the original Arabic coffee at the old City market. Was cold but funny because of our quality time together.

That sounds lovely, aside from the cold. Does he shoot film as well? I am good, been relaxing and enjoying the weekend and good company. Next time you're out, have a cup for me, I've yet to get to try the original Arabic coffee :)

Hope you're safe and well my friend. Until next time!

thank you, brother. My son is more in cinematography. He tried to film but now I'm using his Holga :-)
Yesterday I was in Jerusalem again. This time for the protest. A short walk before with my new Canon P and the rally after this.
take care bro

Not taking it and #idonotconsent to mandatory vaccination policies and enforcement of any kind. Social or political.

"Don't tell me what to do!"

Lol, this anarchist feels that. It's not mandatory here or else I'd probably feel quite a bit differently.
