Garden Journal #2: Cider Pressing, from a Tropical Garden to an Autumn one and Some Permaculture Thinking

Thank you @riverflows for getting the ball rolling last week and creating all the logos as the gardening newsletter migrates to a more gardening specific community. I hope I can keep up with her as I know my work doesn't draw as much reward as hers, so I'll apologise now for beneficiaries not being as well rewarded on my week. 😉

In the Garden Journal newsletter we'll be highlighting and looking at all things #homesteading, #gardening, #permaculture, #sustainability and checking in on the #gardenjournal tag, so if these are your areas of interest too, then I hope you enjoy the highlights I have today.

A big part of homesteading is harvesting, preparation and preserving and this is no mean feat. This week @goldenoakfarm took us through a whole day of cider pressing from one tree and this was with extra hands on board! She was up at 5am then going solid throughout the day, towards the end of which some unwelcome visitors began to arrive.

Moving from the cold wet climate of the UK, to the dry desert climate of South Australia, means I've experienced two opposing climates. Yet I'm still drawn to tropical gardens and what can be grown in that climate. With @madushanka's mother-in-law under the weather, they paid her a visit and readers are invited along to see what's thriving in her tropical garden. just look at those bananas and pineapples, I'm getting tropical envy!

From the tropics, let's head over to North America where @amberyooper gives us a tour of an end of summer garden which is looking very autumn/fall like with its produce and colours. There's even a display to remind us that Halloween will soon be upon us!

In true permaculture fashion, @solominer is making use of nature's provisions by using old tree trunks as supports for a blackberry trellis. No need to dig extra post holes this way and no need for buying in extra materials other than the trellis itself. This is labour saving and money saving at its best.
