Everyone is talking about PS5 but I’m really excited about PS3!

It’s been 15 years since you could call me a gamer. I was raised on NES, SNES, Sega, and PlayStation 1 and 2.

All I wanted for holidays were games.

When I was young I liked the scrollers...megaman and sonic but a bunch of other stuff too. It’s hard to list them all. ninja gaiden 2, bubble bobble, ninja turtles, altered beast.

When I was in summer camp in junior high school some kid from another school told me about final fantasy and earthbound. I chose the later cause Starman looked more badass than a Moogle, but that turned me on to RPGs forevermore. I played chrono trigger and Mario rpg and skipped FF6 and went straight to FF7, 8, 9, 10. I don’t need to tell you my favorite one do I? I loved Xenogears too, that game open me up to all kinds of things.

I feel like those games helped shape me into a more imaginative and explorative person. And they were just fun, they helped me forget about my depression when my second crush (and first confession) rejected me.

After PS2, I just got too busy. I bought a GameCube, but aside from the fact that it kind of sucked, I was just too distracted to play games.

When I came to japan I vowed not to get sucked into gaming consoles again cause I wanted to study seriously, play seriously and meet a lot of people.

A few months ago I bought Switch because I thought Ring Fit Adventure might push me to exercise a little more in a light way that wouldn’t strain my back.

And so sometimes now I go into the used game shop to see what they have.

I didn’t realize it the first few visits but yesterday something caught my eye....

PS3 games all cost 300 to 500 yen!

That’s like $3-5! What! PS2 games cost $10 and so do Super Nintendo games...DS games and PSP games are even more expensive!

I checked quickly to see if PS3 is backwards compatible....it is! So it’s a PS1,2 and 3 all in one!? Shit. Then I saw some online for 5000 yen.... how much did it cost a few years ago? 40,000?

So I plan on catching up on all the RPGs I missed and a few others.

I’ll start with Dragon Quest 8 cause I never played those games. It doesn’t look like the most interested plot but I’ll pick up Star Ocean and Persona 4 just in case I get bored of DQ. Of course I gotta get around to Final Fantasy 12, and 13 and the sequels to those.

I’ll pick up Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 to play with my gf (nostalgia and stuff) and maybe I’ll find myself getting into Assasins Creed...maybe.

I’m not that into fighting games or shooter games but if there’s a good enough story, I’ll check it out!

Part 2

So a few hours after writing the above, I mentioned that I was thinking of buying a PS3. A friend offered to give me his old one, and another student had offered me a tv last week that he was planning on throwing in the garbage. I picked up the tv today after class, and next weekend I’ll get the PS3....

TI stopped into a game store on the way home (not GameStop sadly, as this is Japan) and saw a sign... “50% off PS3 games”. 😯

So I bought a bunch!

If you asked me how much I thought all those games would cost (used) I’d probably say $400 usd. In. The end I spent about $35 for all of them. If they were new they’d be twice that...

...so an original cost of about $1500 (tv, PS3, 15 games), all for $35. I’d say I did a good job.

So you can all enjoy the new PS5 all you want, it’s all the same shit to me, I’m happy to be playing some good games I missed. 😃
