Nostalgia on my birthday

As I start collecting more and more of the old, Nostalgic retro stuff from the 90's and what I had as a kid, the collection keeps getting boosted by things like an original grey brick Gameboy.

This was my birthday present from my lovely, amazing girlfriend Melissa that suggested I could have the Gameboy or the VR game I was going to get. Of course this was an easy choice as I can easily buy myself the VR game at any time, but the Gameboy was a big thing of my childhood and I had been wanting another for quite some time now. So she was happy to buy me it off Ebay and I love her for doing so since I have already played some Super Mario Land and plan to play my other games soon.

Now what other games do I have...

Well they date back many, many years! Pokemon Yellow I got in the late 90's when I had played Pokemon Blue as a kid, about 10 years old I was and I wanted my own game to play which is when I got given Yellow (I think it was Christmas as well). As a bonus back in those days, there was a setup at a nearby shopping center which they were putting Mew, Pokemon number 151 onto the cartridges and my brother was getting it on Blue so I got him to get it on Yellow for me as well and I am hoping I can still get it now!

Then the Pokemon Trading Card game was a lot of fun and I still have that one as well, which was great since Pokemon Trading Cards were becoming so popular.

Lastly is Pokemon Gold, another great entry in the series and the second edition/generation of Pokemon and something I played as much as Yellow. To this day I can still keep playing through the Pokemon games and be able to have so much fun from them, with the added nostalgia hit even more so now.

These three games had to be cleaned before they worked, after sitting in a box in the shed for about 15 years. Just took some rubbing alcohol on a cotton tip, just damp and not dripping, then rubbing along the copper plating in the bottom of the cartridge and then let it dry off. Then just insert and take out of the Gameboy 5 times and test and they worked all fine.

I had to wait until yesterday to play after getting home from my partner's house and got to enjoy setting into the Super Mario Land World and seeing how well I did.
2 other small but thoughtful gifts I received, one you can see behind me which is the Game Over LED sign which is pretty awesome in the dark and something I wanted to get. Another is a Tetris heat changing mug, because I love Tetris and grew up with it from about 3 years old.

I ordered some things from Amazon US weeks ago, more retro stuff for some nostalgic feels which will end up being in a post once they are all here. One is coming this week to my house, one next week and the other hopefully also next week.

But as the years go by I keep on seeing myself going back to the older days, when things were simpler and much more enjoyable, to not having to adult and only worry about going to school, what games I wanted to play or cartoons I wanted to watch. To also experiencing all this new stuff coming out like Pokemon games, Nintendo 64, tazos from chip packs and much more! That is part of why I am collecting this stuff now, that and to show my future kids things I grew up with while enjoying it myself.
