Super Smash Bros: The reference for fighting games, 21 years later

I'm sure that a large part of us were once able to experiment with the popular Super Smash Bros on Nintendo 64, or at least were able to hear something about this video game that was released in 1999, developed by HAL Laboratory, and distributed by Nintendo, would become one of the most popular video games in Japan, and this was reflected in the sales, and as a result of its great success in that country, would quickly begin to be distributed around the world, reaching millions of copies sold because of how spectacular this video game was.

Super Smash Bros, became one of the most popular video games worldwide, entering among a select group of video games that are part of the history in the world of consoles and that today are still played in updated versions and continue to come thousands of copies to all corners of the world, as well as MarioKart, Agent 007, Super Mario Bros, and many other games that had such an impact, that even more than 2 decades later do not stop boring us.

The key to the success of the video games that manage to transcend generation after generation is mainly due to the investment and dedication that their creators have so that the video games are programmed in a quite complete way, demanding high standards of quality and diversity, with the objective that the gamers always have something to do within the video game and we do not see a premature end where we consider that there is no more to do, so if a game is short, we must take into account that it is not repetitive so that we do not get tired of it quickly. Perhaps this sounds obvious, but many video games over the years have not taken into account these essential aspects and have been immersed in oblivion.

Super Smash Bros, from nintendo 64, took into account all the most important aspects to be mentioned as a 10/10 game. By 1999 we didn't have the HD formats, nor the video game engines we have today, but in spite of that, the quality of the video game stood out by a lot, its graphic aspects were quite good and its playability generated the desire of not stopping and continuing playing for many hours, mainly with the inclusion of the 4vs4 game mode, characteristic of nintendo 64, it was amazing to enjoy with your friends some battles full of emotion and adrenaline.

Super Smash Bros on nintendo 64 has a total of 12 characters, which are Mario, Luigi, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Falcon, Ness, Yoshi, Fox, Pikachu and Jigglypuff, although at the beginning of the game only 8 of them are available, the other 4 are unlockable. On the other hand, the video game had 9 maps, with the inclusion of the random map option, something quite appropriate, since we would always have a friend who would feel more comfortable in certain maps and with a certain game character. Something also very characteristic is that we had the Handicap option, placing our cpu opponents with a certain level of gameplay, to facilitate or generate difficulty in each game. Another very striking feature was that each character had unique skills, which helped the game was not boring at all, even with 2 game modes, one of them fought with time, and the other set a specific number of deaths, in which if you were killed that many times, you were eliminated, until finally a character is left on the platform.

Being a successful video game, it would become part of each of the new nintendo consoles, being later launched Super Smash Bros Melee in 2001 for the nintendo GameCube, then Super Smash Bros Brawl in 2006 for the nintendo Wii, later Super Smash Bros would be launched in exclusive versions in 2014 for the nintendo Wii U and 3DS, and finally being part of the nintendo Switch in the year 2018 under the name of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, presenting many more characters and selectable maps, becoming an icon game for each of the nintendo consoles that have come out so far.

image.png

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, is to date, the last videogame that has come out of its saga, waiting for future versions in future consoles that nintendo has for us. This videogame has a total of 75 characters, a pretty big number, taking into account that each one has unique skills, bringing together a large number of characters from different videogames, a mix of entertainment in high contrasts. Really the graphic quality of Super Smash bros in the nintendo Switch respect to the first version in the nintendo 64 is quite marked, something normal, because this last version has come out 19 years after the first big release, becoming the Super Smash bros with the most characters, and the best to date in all aspects, graphics, gameplay, characters, game modes, among others. A videogame that has given a lot to talk about for more than 20 years, and that will continue to bring us much more entertainment.

Finally, I leave you with a great video in which the graphic aspects of Super Smash bros in its first version are compared with the last one that has come out to the market, in a few words Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo 64.

Fortunately they have changed for the better, the current ones are much more diverse, although the original 64 will always be the best because it was the first. Thank you for commenting on and valuing my publication. You are welcome to my blog!
