Mario Tennis N64: I wasn't a lover of Tennis, but I was a lover of this game

Today I want to reach the hearts of my readers a little bit with this video game. I know that many of us have different sports hobbies, being more punctual, mentioning 4 great sports worlds, such as soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis, of course there are many others with great hobbies and of great importance, but the idea of this publication is not to emphasize them.

My idea with the previous paragraph of introduction to the topic is to comment on something that to date I consider to be very valuable and important in the world of video games, something that perhaps you have experienced, but you have not yet begun to analyze it, something that happened to me with the great Mario Tennis.

I was 12 years old, when I knew this video game, after buying the console from a friend, I included in the purchase all his video games, among those was Mario Tennis, the truth was not calling my attention, but as a good gamer I was trying all the cassettes to see how good each of the games.

I don't want to lie to you, but Mario Tennis was one of the last games that I decided to try, for that time I was an absolute fan of Soccer, and it was the only sport that gave it importance. When I finally connected the cassette to nintendo and turned on the switch, I didn't expect more enthusiasm, I decided to create a normal game, choosing Yoshi, my favorite character within all the Mario sagas. My surprise was huge, when after a set, I started to feel more and more interest in the game, I won my first game and I really found the dynamics programmed for this game fascinating, what most caught my attention were the funny sounds each character made when hitting the ball, also the great element that had been included in the video game, having the possibility to see the repetition of the final stretch of each point.

Another thing that attracted my attention was the fact that I could play games in pairs, and by this I mean mainly another person playing in my team against the computer, something very entertaining, and that made the game much more exciting.

At this point my interest in tennis developed and I decided to start watching some games that were on TV, watching and being amazed by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, number 1 and 2 in the world respectively for those times.

I liked very much the different game modes, among them 2 in special that I don't remember very well their names, but one was where you played in the Bowser field and the biggest difficulty was that while you were playing the field it moved, besides you could use the popular unknown boxes with special weapons to put a trap to our rival. The other game mode that was also great was where you played games in which you had to aim well to pass the ball through some circles that would give the accumulated score to whoever won that point.

These game modes, together with the tournaments served to unlock 2 new characters, which were Donkey Kong Jr and Shy Guy.

For me it was really unusual, that a video game had so much repercussion so that I came to like this sport so much, mainly to see it, because to play it I am lousy. Today, even though it is no longer in its best moment, I am still a faithful fan of Rafael Nadal's style of play, who for me has been the great referent along with Federer in this beautiful sport.

If you have ever not played it and have the opportunity to do so, and even if you are not a fan of this sport, you will understand me, and you will know for sure the reasons and sensations that I am expressing here today. A very entertaining video game, and with a lot of action, since the highest level of difficulty represents a challenge to be overcome.

It is very good, I actually play it in an emulator, Project64, and the roms are very easy to get, you could locate it and try it before buying it, so you will be sure of the purchase, I really have a great time with Mario Tennis, especially playing it several times at home.

I can recommend you this emulator, which I mentioned in one of my previous publications:

From here I usually download the roms, they are usually good and without errors:

You can also find them on the web, these or any emulator and roms.

Thanks for valuing my post, and for taking the time to read it!

I've had great times and memories with Mario Tennis. I was not able to beat CPUs on MAX difficulty though after beating the game.
