Por lo que entendí, el juego trata de un Dios antiguo conocido como Raiden, protector de la tierra y Dios del Trueno, quien lucha en contra del hechicero Shang Tsung.

Raiden es el encargado de preparar y liderar a los guerreros para defender el planeta. Estos son preparados para el combate de Mortal Kombat. Conforma un equipo con Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang y Kung Lao. En los combates principales ganan y liberan a Jax. Luego Shao Kang, el rey del mundo exterior, hace trampa y manda a uno de sus combatientes a matar a Jax, pero no lo logra y solo le destrozan los brazos.

Entonces hace aparición Zub-Cero y los ayuda. Él va al torneo a buscar a Escorpión y cuando lo va a matar aparecen los robots, quienes lo capturan para convertirlo.

Smoke se va con Johnny Cage. Raiden y Smoke deciden ayudarlo en el torneo.

En la última fase de Mortal Kombat solo quedan combatiendo Kung Lao y Liu Kang. Pero este último decide salvar a Kitana que la tienen encadenada al torneo.

Respecto al manejo de los controles, comparándolo con tekken y soul calibur, son más cómodos y se pueden manejar mejor los personajes.

Es preferible jugarlo con un compañero y no con la computadora. Así es más emocionante.
