Path of Exile ~ Finally Experiencing Endgame

My partner was adamant. I wouldn't see level 80 and higher in Path of Exile unless I followed a build that someone else had slaved over to perfection.

I am proud to announce that he was wrong.

Ding! Level 80!

First of all, I ditched my ranger and re-rerolled a witch. Not for any particular reason, I do enjoy the ranger, but my partner was (and still is) playing a witch and I remembered how much I enjoyed it in the hardcore races, despite that being the character I was more likely to die with. 😅

I wanted to be all lightning and zappy zappy... and just like with my ranger, I wanted to do my own build and not rely on someone else's.

So I did.

I literally went through all the skill gems and support gems on the Path of Exile Wiki and worked this and this and this out. Then I read posts on Reddit and the PoE forums about the abilities I wanted to use and the best supports for them... only to feel vindicated because apart from one or two things, most people did what I was planning on doing.

Common sense saves the day!

Yesterday I levelled up to 80, and then surpassed it twice more before bedtime. And it was all thanks to me, myself and I, and not someone else's build that was blindly followed. 😛

However, I will admit that it's very difficult. Once you get into this area of the game, every time you die you lose a fair chunk of XP. And I was dying a fair bit. But then something great happened.

I found this:

And my partner gave me this:

Suddenly I was more survivable, I could zoom through things with ease! And out of curiosity I rushed to assorted gear pages online and trawled through them until I found other things that sounded perfect for what I'm trying to achieve.

There's a chestpiece that'll be perfect called Inpulsa's Broken Heart. Now I just need to find it. And there are two rare cobalt jewels I need to find -- Plague Joy and Glyph Glisten.

After I get those things, I'll need to re-roll a fire/cold resistance ring several million times until I get a good one, and I should be set!

I also caved in and bought a supporter pack so I had enough coins to buy... yes... some stash tabs. Yes, I needed a larger stash.

However, I am adamant that I also need an inventory expansion. With the maps and the limited portals to get back into the maps, I have to be more choosy in what I'm picking up... which is probably a good thing. But I want to vendor everything!

I'll pay double what I did for the stash tabs!

Inventory is everything!

If you're curious, I'm running a Storm Burst elementalist witch with a couple of Golems.

I have a lightning circle I stand in at all times, an aura that allows me more lightning damage, I curse things when they damage me, brand them with stormy goodness when I crit, and my Tempest Shield zaps them when I block.

Take that, vile creatures!

Until next time,

Thanks for stopping by! 😊

I still struggle with this game so hard about what actually to do at the start. I seem to be stuck on the beach zone with no clear direction what to do lol If I knew this seems like it would be a fun legit game! Total diablo vibes

It's a great game! I played the hell out of Diablo and still do xD looking forward to the Diablo 2 remaster coming soon. 😁 Path of Exile is a little bit more in depth - the passive tree is massive and your abilities are linked to skill gems that you can then enhance with support gems. Took a while for me to get used to.

At the start, on the beach -- when you wake up, there's a weapon right next to you. When you pick it up it should auto-equip and the guy next to your character will be able to be spoken with.

After that you just run around the beach killing everything and smashing open crates and chests and things. You should get a skill gem and a support for it on the beach. There's a boss type creature on the beach, and after you kill him, behind him is a path to the first town, and on the game goes! 😁

I always loved Tempest Shield. The whole auto-retaliation thing is fantastic. I'd love to build an uber-tank with two shields, who runs around minding his own business; but auto-smites anyone who attacks him.

That sounds neat. This is the first time I've really noticed Tempest Shield and it's great!

Running around minding your own business xD that's basically what my partner is doing. He's doing a summoner build, and he just runs in and lets his skeletons and things do all the work while he simply avoids all the bad on the ground. Almost tempted to try it out myself.

I had a great build like that, but died in an explosion in Oriath Square. Turns out meat shields are great against incoming damage, unless it's AOE.

Inpulsa's Broken Heart is perhaps my favorite item in this game, but damn it's so rare. I wouldn't expect it to drop really. You could trade for it though. And be careful, it might burn up your PC.

Getting to endgame with your own build is a real achievement in this game. Well done! You should check out Path of Building if you want to do some perfecting and min/maxing to your build.

I was looking at buying it but it's pretty expensive... especially for a six-link! 😅 I'd be happy with just a five-link to be honest, but that's also pretty expensive. Need to save my orbs. My secret plan is to hope for the best and then just cave in and buy it from someone else after a week has passed.

Thanks for the recommendation! I did briefly look at Path of Building, but didn't actually get it yet. I might do so now. 🙂

I love Path Of Exile and have played off and on for years. Out of my 20+ characters and builds, for some reason, I always stop around level 81 or so. Inpulsa's is a game-changer, and I wish you lots of success in acquiring one. (P.S. Do you use any of the trading sites such as https://poe.trade/ or Path's Official trading market?)

Huge props to you for making it endgame, and even more congrats for doing it with your own build. This post almost makes me want to play again :)

Thanks! 😄

I've been hearing so much about Inpulsa! Sounds like I've made the right choice... if I actually get it. xD I don't use the trading sites but my partner does. I'll just chuck him the orbs to get it for me when I get enough -- Inpulsa's is pretty expensive for a 5 or 6-link already with the socket colours I'd like.

You should totally play! The new league mechanic is pretty spiffy, though, for me, Sister Cassia and her Blight tower defence... nothing will top that. Love seeing her again randomly in these end-game maps!

My pleasure!

Yeah, you're hearing about it for a reason. It's one of the game's "staple" items for many builds. (Part of why it's so pricey for a 6L.)

Great that you can just ask your partner to trade for you.

I'm so focused on my "Hive Explained In Friendly Doodles Guide", I've barely had time to focus on gaming. I guess I could start Steam's lengthy PoE update process at the very least, lol.

And it's interesting how everyone has their favorite mechanics. I think mine might be 'breaches,' I enjoy putting my builds to the test in their intense chaos.

:)
