Valkyries | Nordic Mythology | My Journey in God of War (PS4)

The Valkyries, those extremely powerful warriors who serve Odin directly, could not be left out in God of War. The Valkyries are a vital part of Nordic mythology, although in the game they are not a vital part of the story and you can completely ignore them, their power, armour and other interesting details they bring to the story, will make you not leave them out

In Nordic mythology, the Valkyries are wars led by Freyja and serving the father of all, Odin. The Valkyries have a rather particular task and that is to select those warriors who have fallen in battle and take them to Valhalla, that large hall located in Asgard where they wait to fight at the end of the world known as the Ragnarök.

During the Poetic Age, when Odin's stories were told, it is said that more than warriors, the Valkyries were priestesses who practiced rituals, these rituals were performed on the prisoners by letting them live or die. From all this, there are many legends that bring mystical elements to the Valkyries

In God of War, the topic of the Valkyries remains a classic concept as mentioned in traditional Nordic history, but they have suffered a curse. They are led by Freya, who was Odin's wife and when this relationship ends, Odin in his distrust (according to the story, he is not a nice person) curses the Valkyries and they get trapped in a body and according to their nature, this corrupts them until they go crazy.

There are other interesting details in that curse, but I don't want to give a spoiler, because right at the end of the game you find out something interesting and it's directly related to the Valkyries and despite knowing the Nordic mythology, it's something you don't see coming.

What I can tell you is that these corrupted Valkyries are quite strong and if you decide to, you can help the Valkyries to break this curse. To achieve this, you must fight against each of them and I must warn you that every battle will be difficult. These Valkyries are in sealed chambers throughout the game and up to a certain point in the plot, you will be able to start fighting them.

There are 9 in total, when you win each one, you will be given special materials and an object that you must place in the council of the valkyries and when you complete it, you will face the queen of the valkyries and I can say it was one of the hardest battles I've ever had in video games but in the end, I managed to beat it.

I'm a fan of the Valkyries and in my opinion, the work achieved with them in God of War looks very good and now I want to play Valkyrie profile haha.
