(ESP-ENG) Algunas joyas del GameBoy Color - La vieja escuela // Some jewels from the GameBoy color - The Old School.
Hello friends, good vibes everyone.
To this day I continue with this console timeline that I once had a few years ago. We started with the NES, followed by SEGA, The Nintendo 64 until it was the turn of this little console that without fear of being wrong was one of the ones I played the most for obvious reasons. Nothing more than the fact that you could take it anywhere was really a very important extra.
There were few games that I had which I will talk about below but it was one in particular which took almost all my attention and my leisure hours. If they ever had this GameBoy I'm sure they will have played that title, when they see it I am convinced that it will bring back good memories for more than one. Without wasting any more time, let's get started.
- Pokemon (Yellow version).
I don't know if you remember it but this game had several editions depending on the Pokemon: (Red - Charizard, Blue - Blastoise, etc ...). The truth is that at 10-11 years we were all fans of Pokemon and this game came to consolidate that. The incredible thing about this game is that it was of the adventure type in which you go through different parts of a large map hunting the different Pokémon that you will find on the way.
I remember that I spent hours and hours immersed in this game and although it may not seem like it had a certain degree of complexity, in fact I think that the yellow version was the most difficult of the three that were available at that time. I say this because of the level of battles and above all because of the gym leaders who seemed to have a fairly high difficulty.
The story was simple, very similar to the comic, and it was nothing more than going from town to town proving to be the best coach by facing all possible coaches. In addition to catching all the pokemon that could come out on the way. The truth is a jewel of the game, the graphics as well as elementary as possible but a title without any waste.
- Donkey Kong Country.
Another game that I had and in which we were already packing to see an improvement in terms of graphics and the same color. Here you began to see a little more that 3D effect that some games began to implement being a great advance given the console we are talking about. In fact, this saga was one of the first to dare with this innovation in graphics, which really came out very well.
As for the story, it is about Donkey Kong who together with his nephew Diddy Kong have the task of recovering some bananas that were stolen by one of his greatest enemies King K. Rool. Another of the things that really gave this game a great identity were its settings since all this happens on the so characteristic and famous island of Donkey Kong.
As a fun fact, I was NEVER able to finish this game. I remember that there were incredibly difficult worlds where no matter how hard I tried it was impossible to advance further in the game, it was many afternoons of frustration but anyway I do not remove it from my list. It is a very, very good game that at the time was far above many.
- Mortal Kombat 4.
The classic of all time could not be missing from my list of those games with which I spent days in front of the small screen of the GameBoy. Honestly, this game did not differ from the rest in terms of history and gameplay, but let's see, it was Mortal Kombat and if there was blood, fists and flying kicks, every child would like it.
Honestly, i didn't come here to lie, this game lacked a lot to be a masterpiece. I remember that the only interesting thing about this title were its "fatality" that once you did it, a kind of 3D animation appeared a bit decent. I put it on the list because it was the first game I had on the GBC, so as with the other consoles, we are talking about sheer nostalgia. I have always been and am a fan of Mortal Kombat so for sheer affection they see it here.
- Wario Land - (Super Mario Land 3).
We come to other of the true jewels of the crown. This game was pure gold because the protagonist was one of my favorite characters from the entire Mario Bros. universe. Nothing to envy to Mario games, Wario Land that did not bring the best graphics on the market, its entertainment was 100% guaranteed. The levels very well achieved, the gameplay very similar to those of Mario and that came with a slight color really was a game that caught me a lot.
This game did not really have any plot, Wario's only goal was to collect as many coins as possible to be able to buy a castle bigger than Mario's. Wario has a reputation for being greedy. The level of adventure in this game is maximum because within each level there are hidden sublevels that we have to try to find which have prizes or extra treasures and coins.
- Duke Nukem.
If Mortal Kombat is a classic, I don't know what name to give this game. The fifth game in my collection and because it is the last it does not mean that it is the worst, but one of the best had to be saved until last. Duke is kidnapped by strange beings whose only objective is to extract his brain to put it in a war machine and thus dominate planet Earth.
I had this game in many places, even on the PC and I really always liked how bloody and explicit it was and in the GameBoy Color it was no exception. Pretty decent or at least clean graphics fulfilled the function of giving a good experience when playing. This game was also absurdly difficult to pass, I couldn't finish it either, it seemed incredible to me how difficult it was since I always arrived at the same place. Anyway, a tremendous game that if I could play it again without a doubt I would.
Anyway, these were the only FIVE games that I had on this console, there was no opportunity to play anymore because I really had it for a short time but it was really enough for me and it was enough to say that the GameBoy color was a revolution, passing something in black and white to color and portable was a gigantic step.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people for today is everything, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to all, see you in the next one!
