The binding of Isaac Rebirth - Facing Our Nightmares (Eng-Esp)

Many games capture the public's attention in many ways, some are for their amazing graphics, their cute character modeling, their name, or in some cases the opposite. Well, something like that is what happened to me with this game.

And of course, don't get me wrong, but its strange modeling and the images on the Steam page made the mechanics and visuals of the game seem a bit weird, that point of weirdness was what caught my attention completely on it and when I saw in its argument that it was a dungeon arcade game, I was even more hooked and decided to buy it.

The game I am talking about as you saw in the title is The Binding of Isaac in its Rebirth version, this version was the first one released after its predecessor which was a version released in Adobe Flash Player. This last one was a remake of the first one ported independently to not have a game centralized to a software, soon they released later versions of the game.

Its story and modeling have quite a bit of background and touch quite a few dark points of the main character of the plot. One day a boy named Isaac lived in a quiet house with his mother, she was quite a religious fanatic but one day she begins to hear voices in his head and she interprets them as being from God, these voices are increasingly latent in his mind and are telling him things until they reach the point that Isaac is impure and therefore must sacrifice him and she decides to listen to him, Isaac before this runs from his mother and as a solution hides in the basement.

In this place, there are hidden monsters that become stranger and stranger as you go deeper into it. From here the game begins, as they manage to show us when we start a game. Of course, you may wonder how the mother comes to these conclusions and follows the indications of these voices? The game does not tell you concisely but, it is left to free interpretation that it may be the cause of an illness that the mother may suffer from, such as schizophrenia.

Once we have defined the synopsis, let's go to the gameplay!

--

Once you start a game the first thing you see is our character, Isaac, and a map with rooms/dungeons that allow you to get a glimpse of what the next room that awaits us is like, generally as in every dungeon game most of the rooms are riddled with monsters (a bit disturbing) ranging from the simplest ones like flies to the more complicated mini-bosses like a Dracula that can fly and hurt you.

Each level is made up of floors, which in turn are made up of rooms that are randomly generated, both the enemies that make it up, the structure of the same, and any detail that may have. This gives us the feeling that it will not be repetitive at all, and that each game you face will have the possibility of being more intense than the previous one.

Within each floor, there are bonus rooms such as stores that simply allow you to buy items with the coins you collect, sacrifice rooms that, redundantly, allow you to sacrifice part of your life by randomly obtaining objects or bonus rooms with items that will allow you to add new abilities to your character to fight.

6.jpg

The game plays to your skills as a player as the controls provide you with the routine task of continually dodging all damage attempts thrown at you by enemies. To deal with these and explore the environment in general you are allowed to drop small infinite tears that at a certain distance inflict damage to enemies and drop bombs to be able to open closed paths or do chain damage.

As I said, these attack skills can have thousands of improvements, but there are so many in the game that there are some that generally do not make much difference, such as the tear with greater range but with a short distance, so in those cases, it is better to investigate and see which items do not improve the character so much and if it is the case of not doing so, simply leave them.

5.jpg

As I talked about "mini-bosses" before, now it's time to talk about bosses, isn't it? Being of this genre it is something mandatory to contemplate them, in the game each level or floor has at least one boss, in some cases two and I did not spend much but there are times that you can get to face up to three bosses in the same level.

The bosses vary quite a lot since they are randomly generated but in The binding of Isaac, they have an endless number of bosses ranging from the simplest ones like a worm that generates little worms that try to attack you, to face your mother, the devil in several phases and undoubtedly the one that in my opinion is the most complicated of all, you.

You may be wondering, Isaac, how will we face ourselves? You see, this game touches on many philosophies and reflections that although they do not tell you clearly what it is, it is very clear what the mechanics and everything that surrounds the game is about, but anyway, I will touch on that point later.

This game is not only the arcade factor of its continuous and random generation is what makes it easy to get hooked, but also the outcome of so many things that contain it and how each of how you develop a game and the events that happen to you in it can lead to one destination or another.

10.jpg

Yes, this game not only has a diversity of objects, enemies, and rooms. But it also has several alternate endings that, as I said, depending on how you decide and how your game develops, you will reach one or another outcome.

As I talked about before, this game has something weird that catches your attention, at first glance you can see it darkly, its monsters are disturbing and it treats some detailed ones without any care that the audience might like it, I think the developers did this on purpose as the background of it to my interpretation conveys a dark side of our main character.

My conclusion of The Binding of Isaac Rebirth.

When playing The Binding of Isaac I could notice quite a few things as I thought about the plot, I mean, in my personal opinion I think the game reflects a story of a character that has gone through quite a few unfortunate situations, and the representation of the monsters and the labyrinth of each level is perhaps one of the things that represent his going into his inner self and how he continuously tries to fight with his nightmares, in this occasion reflected through monsters.

So when we face different bosses after that continuous struggle with all the inner demons of the protagonist, there are different outcomes that lead him to fight with the phase of overcoming the fears of the same, among them may be the mother, but in my opinion the most shocking of all can become to face Isaac himself.

In conclusion, it is an amazing game, although it is not the most friendly and familiar, it has a spectacular background and I think the developers gave it besides this great argument, great gameplay, and continuous fun that every time you get more and more hooked. If you haven't played it I recommend it entirely, and I hope this review has given you a fun approach and opened your curiosity even more for wanting to try it, see you in the next one.

Mi conclusión de The Binding of Isaac Rebirth.

oh yes, Edmund McMillen is one of my favorite creators of these times, his games always have that tenebrous aura and devilish difficulty, I want to play his last creation The End is Nigh and that is not so far from what this game was, just excellent level designs, a frenetic gameplay and a good artistic direction.
