Motorstorm Arctic Edge is one of the video games I recently tried and the truth is that I found it quite interesting and that is why I decided to share it with you in my blog, especially for the #hivegaming community. It is an arcade driving game, developed by BigBig Studios for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2. It was officially launched on October 15, 2009 for the aforementioned platforms. This game achieved a significant success as far as PS2 is concerned beyond being a totally arcade game, but the best thing is that Motorstorm is an all-terrain game where players have a lot of fun touring each of the scenarios through which we can travel or we must meet the objectives of the different game modes we have, but I'll talk about it later. What I like most about this game is that it is pure speed, off-road and arcade, which leads players to travel extreme places that is not so easy to handle, however the level of difficulty of driving the game are not difficult, the most complicated would be the difficulty of the different terrains and the conditions that these can affect the handling and driving, but otherwise the game focuses more on the entertainment of the players than anything else, without leaving aside other important aspects of the game, such as gameplay, game modes, graphics, sounds, tracks (scenarios) and vehicles.

In terms of gameplay and game modes, I can tell you that the game is well worked, at least in what it has. This is a sequel to previous presentations of the game, where in the last version it was developed only in desert scenarios, but for this opportunity they added more snow scenarios without leaving aside the land. Among the game modes we have the Festival, Free Play and Time-Attack modes. The first and the main one, which is the Festival mode, is simply a career mode where more than 100 events or competitions divided into 8 levels of difficulty are held, which as we progress will be increasingly difficult, which is more interesting and entertaining for players, due to the level of aggressiveness of the AI (Artificial Intelligence). Free Play is the traditional racing mode, where the player selects a vehicle, a track, configures the normal game options and starts the race at a certain number of laps, which in this type of games range from 3 to 5, and the winner is the one who has crossed the finish line in first place. Time-Attack is the mode where you take the time it takes the player to make a route or navigate on a stage, curve, circuit, in short it is like a stopwatch mode. I think the game lacks more game modes and especially the online or multiplayer mode that always gives players a better experience and therefore give a more positive review to the game.

Because this game is arcade gameplay, the player focuses more on fun than anything else. The races are usually easy in some ways, but as we advance in the game the difficulty increases, crashes are usually more common, either by driving errors or by the track itself. The artificial intelligence are usually quite aggressive, but also make some unexpected mistakes, so you can see that they are more focused on making you lose the race to win them, which I think is unrealistic, but we must understand that this is an arcade game and the year 2009 so I think the creators did a good job in terms of gameplay. In general the gameplay of Motorstorm Arctic Edge is very good and worked where fun is the central point, but of course there are always some things that could be better, such as the lack of online mode and the correction of some bugs that always bring the games.

As for the cars, I can tell you that the game has 24 available among 8 kinds of them, which seems to me to be too few. Among them we have bicycles, snow machines, ATVs, buggies, rally cars, snow plows, big rigs and snowcats. The best thing is that the player can customize his car and modify it to his liking, those modifications being mainly liveries, spoilers, exhausts and sponsor stickers. The vehicles have three main characteristics that will determine their performance on the track, such as speed, acceleration, endurance and handling. The tracks that Motorstorm Arctic Edge has are Wolfpack Mountain, Eagle Falls, Widow Maker, Log Jam, Gold Rush, Vertigo, Mud Bowl, Ascension, Anguta Glacier, The Chasm, Northern Face and Snowgod Canyon, where each of them has varied routes depending on the test and the type of car we are going to use.

Graphically Motorstorm Arctic Edge is a really good game for PS2 and 2009, is very consistent with the time and get a good performance to our console. The textures of the different cars are well worked, in addition to how well the scenarios are seen with each of the modeling and textures of the objects that make up the route. As for the part of the visual effects I can tell you that it is the best of the graphic section since it even has snow splashes in the camera lens, smoke, dust, which makes a touch of realism in the game in the visual part, in addition to other effects of damage that we can see in the cars at the time of the crashes and particles that can be scattered. The feeling of speed is quite good, which makes the player think that he is really in a real race. The fluidity of the game is correct, without fluttering in the game and much less so much visual errors that at least I may have noticed, the FPS never drop below 30 so it is something quite good at this point in the game. In short, I was quite pleased with the graphics of the game.

The sound is one of the things I like most about the game, it is quite impressive in general lines with great hits. The sound of the different engines and types of cars is very good. The sound effects sound really good but nevertheless there are some details that can be improved, mainly the sounds in the crashes that are heard quite simple. The soundtrack is quite entertaining with a very good variety of themes and genres such as hard rock, hard rock and some electronic touches. Among the most prominent groups we find Motorhead, The Hives, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead or a remix of Hey Boy Hey Girl by The Chemical Brothers, among several others.

In conclusion, Motorstorm Arctic Edge is a game that gives us many hours of fun and entertainment. It is an arcade driving game that has excellent gameplay, aggressive AI but make some unexpected mistakes, three game modes that make me fully introduced in the game, but I think if they add others the game would be perfect. In terms of graphics the game is very good with many hits as the modeling of the different models of vehicles, visual effects, feeling of speed and fluidity. The sound is the best, with good sound effects, a great soundtrack with good variety in themes and genres. The worst thing about the game is the lack of online or multiplayer mode and that some races tend to be easy. For all that said is that I give a 9 to the gameplay for the lack of online mode and other game modes but otherwise it is excellent. A 9.5 for the graphics and a 9.8 for the sound.

For the outstanding and not so outstanding aspects of this publication, I give an 9.4 out of 10 overall score to Motorstorm Arctic Edge.

Saludos!

If the game is very good, at the moment I have not noticed any serious bug in the game, but of course like any game has bugs and more that is from 2009. Thanks for your visit. Greetings!
