Urgent Steam news: sacks of gems have no value anymore
Once upon a time, gems were good
For many years, Steam market's gems have been a valuable commodity. They were the only way anyone could create cards which in turn generate Steam wallpapers, emojis, badges and, most importantly, experience points to level up your Steam profiles. But that has changed since “Steam points” were introduced.
These have had market value because some people collect these items or use their perks to show off in a way they can advertise themselves or their services. Some of the more expensive ones required a lot of crafting so you could get what you wanted. Having appropriate market insight would allow you to earn heavy income using the appropriate botting tools such as ASF.
With the introduction of Steam points, which allows anyone getting exactly the item they want for a fraction of the cost, the price of a sack of gems has halved and continues dropping lower. Steam points are gained by simply buying games on the Steam store as a small way of earning some cashback.
Cards were originally meant as a way fans could further support developers they liked, but because of some gambling included among their mechanics, they turned into an exploitable market of their own. You still need them to level up your profile or to get a specific game's badge. If you were a trader using them as a main asset, however, stop whatever you're doing and go do something with what you've still got.

About time Steam introduced a point system..
