Gladly, the apple did fall far from the tree! Knowing you are not like them makes me happy. I have similar issues with my family. While we were talking about my parents, my friend told me "it's like old people live in a bubble" and I couldn't agree more. I think there are less racist people in the world nowadays, or at least that's the feeling I get, so let's be glad this hypocrisy isn't carrying onto the next generations!

Maybe you are not their world, but that's okay

It might be because they want you to mean the world to them, even if that's not true. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. They could want you to mean this much. They could still be working towards it.

But if it bothers you, it wouldn't hurt to point out by saying something like "you've been saying that a lot". It might give them some self-awareness of what they're doing, which will include the fact that you are also clearly very aware of it.

Parents being parents

Caring parents are actually NOT the standard. Whoever gets them (I didn't either) are lucky bastards who I shall forever envy.

My dad died when I was 6. He liked me. Mother does not. She's some arrogant bitch. It took me almost three decades to realize I should stop trying to get her to respect me. Avoid my mistake!

I'm sorry you are in this situation. Try to distance yourself as much as you can. Seek peace. You deserve it.
