My Played Video Games Review: Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics! for the Sega Genesis
Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics! is 2D action platform Sega Genesis game based on the classic cartoon characters of Tom and Jerry. It was developed by Beam Software, an Australian video game development studio and published by Hi Tech Expressions of USA in 1993.
Being an avid Tom and Jerry fan, I had to play this game during the early 1990s to see what its like.
The Story
The world's craziest cat and mouse team is back in a new animated adventure filled with action, frantic antics and notorious baddies. This time, it is up to you to help them save their new girl friend, Robyn, from some ugly foes - including mad Captain Kiddie and cruel Aunty Figg.
Together you will have to beat 8 crazy levels filled with obstacles and enemies - all while grabbing the cheese and fish! And remember, you are here to recue Robyn. Not fight each other!
The Graphics and Sound
The game's graphics are just okay and decent for its time. It looks like a colored comic strip come to life. The gameplay is quite alright so you do not pay much attention to the graphics.
The sound is nice. If you watch some of the old cartoons enough, you might recognize some sounds from there. The levels have forgettable music, but it is not that bad.
The Gameplay
The gameplay of Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics is hilarious. You fight big rats with shotguns that dare shoot you! The stray cats on the street, on the 3rd level are quite funny. You can go two-player with a friend and beat the levels as Tom and Jerry. As a defense against enemies; you can roll, throw ink bottles, footballs and garbage can lids. Although there are only 8 levels, all of them are good and funny.
The replay value is good. Once you beat it, you will still want to play the game occasionally for fun.
My Verdict
Overall, Tom and Jerry: Frantic Antics! is a good game. If you like fun, family games and the Tom and Jerry cartoon characters then this a nice title for you to enjoy. Haters of kiddie-type video games might stay away from this one.
Play it on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or on emulators with a 2 player friend for more fun.
