QuackShot Starring Donald Duck (also just known as QuackShot) is an action platforming video game created and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis in 1991 and released during the same year.

I was a big fan of Disney cartoons with anything cartoon character Donald Duck in it so I got to enjoyed this game during the mid-1990s.

The Story

Donald Duck discovers an ancient scroll that points to a long-lost treasure. Away he goes on a dangerous expedition! He leaps over various dangerous terrain to claim the loot before Big Bad Pete can get his dirty hands on it.

Donald's quacky tantrums keep the bad guys running away! He paralyzes them with his plunger and bounces on the handle to jump over their heads. Then he blasts them with sticky bubblegum!

With his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie's aid, he will find the key to unlock the secret of the most wonderful treasure on earth!

The Graphics and Sound

The game's graphics are done well in this game. Characters are rendered well, got nicely colored clothes, and with good animation. The backgrounds are constructed just about right IMO. Nicely colored and detailed stages are quite common in this game especially those of the vampire's country and Mexican areas. It was a wonderful job what the developers did in this category.

The sound effects are clear; everything from the plunger shots to the moving walls and floors. The stage music for each stage fits each one well. The tunes are catchy enough. My only gripe is that you don't get to hear Donald's trademark ducky voice samples here. Overall, all the sounds and music for this game work well.

The Gameplay

Donald travels all over the globe with his nephews to different places. From these places (some of which you need to backtrack), you will get certain objects and new weapons to help you in your adventure.

Enemies will try to slow you down. There is also the regular boss fight. Also, if Donald Duck gets 5 chili peppers, he will go amuck, and become invincible for about several seconds to clear enemies on his path.

This game has just a decent amount of difficulty to keep your brain functioning.

It is really fun to play because there is even a bit of strategy involved. The replay value is decent because of the fun gameplay and it may help you to avoid some bit of boredom.

My Verdict

It might be targetted for kids below 13 but this Disney game is one that is done very well and is both fun and moderately challenging. Whether you are a Disney cartoon fan or are looking for some old-school 2D platforming goodness, QuackShot should fit the bill nicely.

Go play this classic on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or on your chosen emulators.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!

Is The Games Shed your YouTube channel?

targetted for kids below 13

No way. The game is too hard for most kids! :)

The Games Shed isn't my channel. My PC is too low GPU to record and edit videos.
Yeah, Quackshot was really made for kids originally. Ages 8 to 12 as I recall reading.
