Valheim - Defeating Eikthyr and gearing up to check out the HIVE community server.
Hey gamers
Today I set aside the other games Im currently playing so I could dive back into Valheim and make some progress so I can check out the HIVE community server and bring along something other than stone age starter gear...
So the first main thing you gotta do in the game is to collect 2 deer trophies so you can summon the first boss Eikthyr. In this video we take on this first epic fight...
Getting the deer trophies was tricky , the deer are easily spooked and run of before you can reach them.I found it was best to sneak up on them with the flint knife to take them out.The other thing is that the trophies are a random drop .I guess I killed around 12 deer before I eventually had the trophies needed to spawn Eikthyr...
When I summoned the boss I thought one strategy might be to pull him back to my little house. The reason for this is your health goes up faster when resting in your home and if I died during the fight I would just respawn back in my bed and could easily recover my corpse and continue the fight.
This is how my little house looked before the fight....
This is the mess Eikthyr made of it....
The house wasn't too difficult to build ,I repaired an old shack I found on the edge of a forest .It had a workbench,a bed ,a chest, campfire and cooking rack.....Eikthyr absolutely destroyed all of it...
Watching a lighting deer god tear my house apart was actually pretty damn cool!...I knew it would be easy enough to repair so I kept fighting around the house using it as a shelter from his attacks ...
You gotta just keep dodging his attacks and wearing down his huge hp bar with your bow
I died 5 times during this fight....When you die you have to retrieve your corpse, you lose all of your items and have to retrieve them by clicking on your tombstone.
The first death was no big deal as I respawned in the bed in my house, once the bed had been destroyed however I had to spawn way back at the sacrificial stone circle so I eventually decided to finish the fight there.
Thankfully when you die Eikthrys hit points don't fully refresh.I started the fight with 40 arrows and ended up running out and had to build another workbench to replace the one he destroyed....I managed to build the workbench and craft 60 arrows during the fight....as soon as I had crafted the 3rd pile of arrows Eikthyr destroyed the workbench again!
When he gets down to around 25% health he won't run around so much and is much easier to hit with the bow...
He can still unleash that nasty lighting blast tho....
Eventually we wear him down to his last little bit of health...
Smile you son of a bitch.....
With Eikthyr down the stormy weather passes and a calm descends over Valheim...
We loot the trophy to hang on the sacrificial stone altar so the gods will smile upon us :)
Activating Eikthyr's Forsaken power allows us to reduce the stamina costs of our sprint and jump abilities by 60%
We also loot hardened antlers from the deer god which allows us to make our first mining pick.Hugin our Raven guide suggests we should now head into the Black Forest to find the location of the next Forsaken boss , the Elder....
After the fight I head back to my demolished homestead to rebuild it bigger and better than it was before...
Now it's time to craft the deer antler pickaxe...
When the pickaxe is crafted Hugin lets us know that we can find copper in the Black Forest and Tin along its shore line...It's time to graduated to the Bronze age baby!Woot! :D
Getting this pickaxe upgrade feels like a big deal.In most games you just buy a mining pick from a vendor and go out and harvest ore.In Valheim we had to slay a lightning deer god and use its diamond hard antlers to craft a pick....that's pretty damn epic!
After a hard day Conan chills out in his new shack and cooks some meat ready to get some well deserved rest and head out to the Black Forest in the morning.
Tomorrow ill go and harvest ore to craft some new gear,as soon as I m geared up I will come and visit you guys playing on the HIVE community server.Im looking forward to hanging out with you other Viking Hivians!
Eikthyr is such a cool boss and an important milestone in getting your first pickaxe. I really like how they lock Progression behind bosses in this game. Makes it into a real skill check that you need to get good and gear up for.
Nice job! On to the Elder next!
