So on with the adventure!
We access the deeper part of Auntie Ethel's lair through a cool looking fireplace entrance...
Down into the spooky looking Witches lair....
"You are as thick as they come, sweetness"
"That pretty little eye of yours is mine.Did you think you could sneak down here without my say so"
"Tell me where Mayrina is"
"Has that wriggler eaten your brain already?Leave.Or you'll end up in tonight's stew."
"You'll go nicely with Mayrina.She's already marinating.HAH!"
With that she disappears deeper into her lair and we are left to explore her gallery of horrors...I guess these grim displays are what is left of people that came here looking for her help...
There are 4 freaky looking masks lying on a table which look like they are made from some bad voodoo...
I thought putting them on might let us sneak by the Hags guards and avoid a pretty tough fight but no.If you put the mask on the hag will take control of your character and start attacking the rest of the party"
So we gotta fight 4 guards .I guess they are druids as they have a big regenerative heal and can put a spell reflect ability on themselves which makes the fight hard.I tried the strategy of giving Astarion the high ground so he would have the height advantage...
Gale landed a pretty hefty Scorching ray attack on one of the guards early in the fight...hitting him for 24 points of damage
Astarion follows up with a lethal ranged attack which took one guard out real quickly,if you can get the first couple of guards down quickly the remaining two should be easy enough.
With the guards down we've got to navigate a few poisonous gas clouds to make it to the deepest part of the Hags lair. These gas clouds aren't to powerful and you can just walk through them and heal up with Shadowhearts prayer of healing...
You an also use Gales firebolts to burn the gas but it does return pretty quickly...
So now finally we make it down to the deepest part of the witches lair and can finally confront her...
"You come to my home, interfere in my business, and now have the gall to face me in the heart of my lair? You petulant bollocks"
The Hag has Mayrina trapped in a cage...
"Ill rip your spine out your arsehole"
"I'll use your blood to spice my stew"
"I'll keep you alive until I've sucked the Marrow from your bones"
"And then i'll bring you back and do it all over again"
The main thing to know about this fight is that the Hag will clone herself so you need to work out which of the clones is the real hag.The clones will disappear after one attack but they can all cast a nasty poison attack.I found its a good idea to leave one clone up as she will just make more clones as soon as you kill the last one.
To save Mayrina we need to put out the fire the Hag has cast on the cage she is in...
Gale comes to the rescue with one of the water barrels he looted in the goblin camp...
The fight isn't overly difficult if you manage the cloned hags properly.
Eventually Astarion has her on her last legs...
Gale has the honours of finishing her with a fireball...Burn the witch Gale, burn the Witch!
We get a whopping 250 exp for killing her some potions and some poisonous slime to coat our weapons in...
Mayrina is not happy that we killed the Hag,she is under the delusion that the Hag was going to resurrect her dead husband...
"You bastard! You ruined it - you ruined everything!"
"Slow down -what did I do" I choose as a response...
"Ethel was going to bring my husband back.Back from the dead! And now I'll never see him again - because of you."
We also get access to Auntie Ethels workshop where we can loot some more interesting items, including an Ever Seeing Eye necklace...
A wand with some interesting necromantic powers which we will find out about in a moment...
And a rare Staff of The Crones for Gale that lets him cast extra Ray of Sickness spells...
After looting everything useful in the workshop we leave via a magic fairyring...
Outside we find Mayrina still lingering around the teahouse...
"Gods, didn't hear you coming.I know I should head home, but I can't bring myself to leave."
"The thought of putting him in a wheelbarrow and making the journey all over again".... sigh
"I found a wand- I think I can resurrect your husband"
"What?You can?"
You feel a surge of power from the wand -the air suddenly tastes acrid. It wants to be used
"Bring him back.Bring Connor back -please "
I pick the option of pointing the wand at the coffin...
"What - what's happening? Why is he still dead?"
You feel something pull at you.The creature yearns -for a master
"What have you done to him?"
"Huh .The creature's bound to this wand. How useful"
"He's not a creature hes my husband"
"I wanted him back- back the way he was.Not this"
"Don't worry - I have the wand.I'll make use of him" Looks like we got us a Zombie thrall which we can conjure with the wand.....nice! :)
"I thought you were going to help!I thought - I thought..."
And with that Mayrina runs of.This ends her very sad tale. Her brothers both died in the bog on the way to rescue her likely at the hands of the Recap goblins. Her husband's corpse is now our Thrall. She probably won't make it through the bog with all those Redcaps around...Its probably for the best she doesn't make it...her tale is tragic...
Astarion has some thoughts on the events that have transpired...
"I'm not sure what we expected, really. It was never going to be happy ever after with a hag involved"
"At least we tried:We had to do something" Is the response I chose.
"Did we?I'm not sure it was appreciated"
"Maybe next time we should just leave well enough alone"
And with that we make our way back out of this beautifully wretched swamp and on to our next adventure
