Ho Ho Ho it's almost Christmas!
Love it or hate it, this traditional holiday celebration is upon us. Along with it comes many interesting traditions that have some really strange roots. Namely, putting up a Christmas tree.
Why do we erect a Christmas tree and then adorn it with ornaments? To be honest this author has never really thought about it until today. After doing some research, It turns out we have to thank Queen Victoria’s German husband, Prince Albert, for this, conifer idea.
It is true that evergreens were used in Solstice events dating back to the time of the Romans, and some German Catholics decorated with them around the 15th century. However, in the 19th century Prince Albert suggested putting one of these trees in Buckingham Palace.
The Illustrated London News Published photos of this in 1848. After this the British people along with their uncannily love for the Royals, adopted this newfound idea and the Christmas tree was born.
So this Christmas when you start decorating the Christmas tree, drop this little tidbit of knowledge upon your relatives and claimed geek status. Along with that knowledge you could update them as to the new developments on your favorite microblogging platform D.Buzz. Let's look at what ornaments we hung on our blog this week.
