Work progresses on my Son's skid-steer.

Last week we removed all the old hoses except two, and had them built new. This took 4 men over 6 hours to remove...we were learning where everything routed!

They looked like this:

And this was the junction they couldn't break:

I always get the ones everyone else gives up on! So I cut off the hose fitting with a saws all, and used a pipe wrench with a 4 foot cheater handle. When I stopped asking...and Told it to come off; it listened!

Some of the other old hoses:

Too much age damage on all the lines!

Here's what it looks like with new hoses:

I also noticed that the hose connectors were way over torqued. The manual says (yes, I read the instructions) 200 foot pounds on the top end on these hose fittings! The ones that I had to remove, were tightened to at least twice that, which is why the fittings got rounded off. I will 'final tighten' them with a crow foot, and a torque wrench, on all joints!

We had three Men, and worked about 3 hours:

One of the tools that paid for itself is an electrical fish tape:

My Son has it here, and it allowed us to pull in the long hoses through difficult places. This saved massive time for us!

And yes, I'm taking the pictures...easier work, LOL!

The new hoses looked like this:

He's trying out the controls on his new toy:

He's getting pretty excited about it running again! It will need 15 gallons of new hydraulic fluid; and the two hoses I removed, rebuilt. The 'fire up' time is coming soon, and I'll post it.

She will be a powerful tool for us! Should save a lot of backaches, and speed the work.

She's got 3 driveways, and two foundations planned; with one wallipini greenhouse waiting!

👍💗💸🤠💙😋

That’s what I’m talking about, a good ol’ back saver.

Sounds like the dirt is gonna be flyin’ soon!

He's cute, I need him for an operator, LOL! That is so great, he's in there, getting it done. The first page in the manual warns not to tip it over using the bucket....

Those were some crusty hoses!

True, they didn't leak, but they would soon. All new is a good place to begin!

It's close to done now!

Those things were way tight, I think sometimes shouting at things does help lol.,

That fish tape is it like one of those telescopic arms with a claw joint on the end? I know they come in super handy for vehicle repairs and finding the screw that you told yourself not to drop - but did.

I'm keen to see the follow up post of the beast up & running.

They always pull me in when they have trouble, and these last two were trouble! But if things work out, they will go back on tomorrow; with a new wheel, getting close now.

We still have a hydraulic heat radiator that needs work, and maybe a spindle valve that needs new seals ( too many leaks before to test).

The fish tape is a tool for pulling wire into long runs of conduit. https://www.amazon.com/Yaetek-Electrician-Wires-Cable-Puller/dp/B06VSPGJDN/ref=asc_df_B06VSPGJDN?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80127027724180&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583726553521345&psc=1

But it substitutes well for hoses! You just need to be careful on the leading edge, so the dirt doesn't get into the connectors. It worked pretty well....

Oh it's exciting that you're almost there. I would imagine that it will come in super handy for all sorts of things once you have it running. Best of luck with those new seals and the radiator, hope it isn't too labour intensive.

Ok now I can see the gadget properly, I couldn't make it out from the photo. Haven't seen those here but I've learned something today, thanks for the clarity. Appreciate your time in dropping the link.

Have a great Sunday

Everyone should have a fish tape...very handy toy!

Hoping tomorrow will finish the hydraulics and put good rubber on the dirt! Once we have the fluid added, we can move it down to where we can pressure wash it. There is some steel repairs needed still, but it will be usable before these steel repairs are done.

As with all tools, it will need some tender loving care. But it should do a lot of work for us!
