My latest recipe using green peas, because the nutrition value in them is quite High.

One aspect of prepping that is not very much talked about here it's how you can take you're prepping supplies, and make them more long-term usable.

There's a little bit of talk about menu exhaustion, but few people have addressed it directly. Obviously adding spices is intelligent, because you can make food that you have taste different. This can be very important when you're tired of it.

The other thing to address is nutritional balance, and that's what this specific post is intended to address.

I recently been focusing on green peas because they provide a lot of good nutrition, and they're inexpensive. This makes them a good choice for prepping. I have developed several ways of eating them that I intend to use in a system failure (SHTF) scenario.

Here is the latest one that I like:

This recipe is fairly simple you take peas you add alfredo sauce and mushrooms, with a little bit of sea salt, and you end up with something real tasty. A lot of people do creamed peas I don't think it does enough the buffer the flavor of the Peas, so I went to Alfredo sauce; to add a little bit of cheese flavor, and it came out very nice! I'm adding the mushrooms because I intend to grow mushrooms on the homestead. So try to work them into recipes. Besides...I like them.

Another recipe I also like is adding green peas to macaroni and cheese, along with some chicken to make a nice main dish; it tastes good, and it's very quick.

They are a nice add to macaroni salad also. But this is not as useful in prepping, because I think picnics with macaroni and salad will probably go away if the s*** hits the fan.

They're also a good but little-used addition to a stew along with barley especially, they can really flavor up a pot of stew! I'm thinking that down the road if people get tired of rabbit stew, ingredients like this will make it taste more like beef stew.

There is also the "Forrest Gump" recipe, of peas and carrots; or the sweetness of the carrots offsets the taste of the peas. These combined quite well especially with butter, which hopefully you have stored in number 10 cans already.

The problem with menu exhaustion, is going to affect everyone if this does occur, and the best defense is variety! Everyone should have a dozen or so herbs for culinary use in their prepping supplies.

A culinary herbal garden, combined with a pharmaceutical herb garden may make the difference between survival and failure in a grid down situation. None of them will take up a lot of planting room, but they will add a lot of safety and variety. So if you don't have this set up already, you need to look at it immediately! Seeds are cheap....

I have canned peas in my storage, as well as dehydrated peas for long-term storage, and seeds to grow my own green peas. Multiple sources are critically important, with the seeds being the most important!

Go pick out one prepping item at a time, as I've done with these green peas; and work with that item, until you 'own it' for prepping! Then move to the next item. The more diverse the items you pick are, the safer you will be long term.

Prepping time is growing short okay, so we need to be smarter; and more determined to put away enough volume to be safe. Stay safe, it's time to out-think them; and hide away what you need.

Stay seedy my friends!

I'm not very smart so I keep the recipe simple so I don't confuse myself, LOL! :-)

Actually some of the best recipes are simple, which allows The taste of the ingredients to come through!

This one was really tasty I enjoyed it. Keep on prepping!

Just bought a 5 gallon bucket of green peas from readypantry, along with some other things like lentils, basmati rice, and mexican spices. Good to see someone else with the same idea about peas!

Glad that helps, you might try this it's pretty good eats.

I agree totally with the lentils also, that was my last one that I started working on. They're actually quite tasty and they cook really fast! The different colors of lentils actually taste different also I thought that was an interesting difference.

I also bought some 50 lb bags of popcorn, because from my reading the popcorn is non-GMO so can be planted. That way I can use it for popcorn or cornmeal or seeds. I like multiple uses for my storage supplies!
