Goddesses of Olympus - Hera, Athena and Aphrodite
Introduction
A few days ago I wrote about the unique coin series released in 2014, the Gods of Olympus by The Perth Mint. After the popularity and success of that coin series a follow-up series was released in 2015, the Goddesses of Olympus.
Today I would like to write about the follow-up three-coin series that celebrates some of the most well-known and intriguing Goddesses in Greek mythology - Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, struck in 2oz of .999 pure silver. The brilliant high relief with an antique finish highlights the depth detail of the design:
- Hera - the first coin in the follow-up series featured Hera, she is the sister and wife of Zeus and rules as the queen of the gods of Mount Olympus. In Greek mythology she is the goddess of women, marriage, family and childbirth. Hera is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea, who were Titans. Her Roman mythology equivalent is Juno.
- Athena - the second coin in the series featured Athena. In Greek mythology she is the goddess of the wisdom, handicraft, and warfare. Athena is believed to have been born from the forehead of her father Zeus. Her Roman mythology equivalent is Minerva.
- Aphrodite - the third and final coin in the series featured Aphrodite. In Greek mythology she is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. Aphrodite was born off the coast of Cythera out of the foam of this sea from the anatomy of her father Uranus, who was castrated by his son Cronus, who then threw the severed parts into the sea. Her Roman mythology equivalent is Venus.

Coin Price
The issue price of these coins on the Perth Mint website was AU $179.00. Although, the price on the secondary market for this coin series did not reach the frenzied highs of the Zeus coin, they still command a decent premium within the Australian market.
Interestingly when I did on eBay search for worldwide sold listings for these coins it tells a very interesting story, see below:
Hera - On 3 February 2021 in the United States, someone picked up an absolute bargain for the Hera coin. It appears that this was an auction listing that only had two bids. At a purchase price of AU $119.69, that is a discount on the issue price of approximately AU $60.00. Congratulations on whoever picked up this coin, you did very well. 😎
Athena - On 1 February 2021 also in the United States, the Athena coin also sold for a discount on the issue price. This listing was also an auction listing, the number of bids was a bit more respectable with thirteen bids. At a purchase price of AU $138.25, that is a discount on the issue price of approximately AU $41.00. Another good buy. 👍
Aphrodite - On 12 March 2021 this time in Germany, the Aphrodite coin sold for a nice solid premium on the issue price. This listing was a 'Buy It Now' listing. This listing type can often take longer to sell, but often gets a better result for semi-numismatic coins. At a purchase price of AU $248.59, that is a premium on the issue price of approximately AU $69.00. This is a very appropriate premium for the goddesses of pleasure, passion and procreation. 😊

Outer Box
The outer box is white with gold imagery and writing. The images depict the three Goddesses of Olympus in The Perth Mint coin series, the goddesses are Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. The words 'GODDESSES OF OLYMPUS' are written on the top of the box. The name of the goddess appears below the imagery. On the side of the box is written '2oz SILVER COIN'.
Wooden Display Case
When you remove the high quality cardboard lid of the outer box, you are greeted by a round wooden display case, with detailed illustrations in gold print. The three goddesses are depicted walking in a straight line holding onto each others garments of clothing.
Inside the round display case, the words 'The Perth Mint Australia' appear next to the swan logo in gold writing. The antique finish 2oz coin is positioned in the centre of the round display case and is bordered by a gold circular Grecian pattern.

Athena would be my favorite of these three.
I have a 60 inch Shinwa combat spear and throwing a spear is not easy.
