Help Me Decide: The Morgan or the Crown

avatar
(Edited)

I am an average cost stacker.

I add to my stack every month and buy precious metals

without regard to spot price.

I buy what I want according to a goal list.

However, I always stay within my

monthly budget for silver and gold.

Some of you may know that I have started a collection of 1888 coins of any design or denomination from any country. I actually do not have a collection yet because I only have a couple of coins. My Sis @kerrislravenhill just gifted me an 1888 Franc to add to what I currently have!

Two silver coins came up the secondary market. And I have to make a decision!

1888 UK Queen Victoria Jubilee Crown

1988 Morgan US Silver Dollar, Brilliant Uncirculated

😍Both are lovely and #ilikeitalot!😍

Help me decide!

if you were in my place,

which of the two will you buy, and why.

😊 Stay AWESOME!!!😊

The Morgan! It's my all time favorite coin. I have several.

I love the Morgan Dollar, and this one is uncirculated and brilliant white with much of its patina intact. It does say that the photo is a stock photo, but the seller guarantees the same quality coin. What do you think? It has a high premium for a P mint. I am truly undecided!
It is great to meet another blogger who is into silver coins. I love US Silver Dollars too! I am glad that you stopped by and l appreciate you for leaving a comment, @lightninggears.
Have a wonderful week and take care, my friend 🥰🌺🤙

This is a though choice, both are beautiful coins.

I kinda like the look of the crown a little better myself.

I love the large crowns, especially the George and the dragon design in the reverse. I have three large crowns with that reverse design, and they are my favorite word coins! Quite expensive, though. If I can decide fast enough and out an offer before the first bid, I may have a chance to get it for less than the advertised seller preferred price for it! I am so undecided. I can only afford one coin, and I am afraid that after I get any of the two, the other will no longer be available when the next month comes. arrrrghh!!!!! I appreciate your input, my friend.
Have a wonderful day, @maddigmike, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

I am sorry, but I can't help. As I am not an expert and the Morgan photo is not the photo of the coin, I would only buy a slabbed (PCGS or NGC) coin.
That would give me the assurance that I am expending a value that is about the real value of the coin today.

Oh, okay. Understandable! Yeah, I get raw coins from reputable dealers too... and when a raw coin is pricey (to me over 30 an ounce if silver is too expensive, no matter what) I have to ask. nd I know what you mean about slabbed coins. My collection fo Peace dollars are graded coins precisely because I wanted to be sure that they are genuine US coins. There was a time the secondary market was proliferated by fakes from China!

The design is so classic, isn't it? Unfortunately, this morning, the listing is gone. The seller pulled it out! It is possible that someone made an offer. Lucky for me, I have the 1889 UK Queen Victoria, so in terms of design, I have that in possession. I guess the choice was made for me!
Have a wonderful day, @fat-elvis! Take care 🥰🌺🤙

Great choice, @tattoodjay! And that is what I am going to get! Secure the American coin first, right! For me anyway. I am a patriot, and so I am attracted to anything American. Even the generic rounds I get are designs that depict either Lady Liberty, Eagles, American Buffalo, Native American, the flag, the American prospector, American Heros, US Presidents, US Historical events.
Have a wonderful day, my friend, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Oh my, this is a tough choice and because I am a Subject of the Crown and I believe Queen Victoria to the first Gothic Queen make her my sentimental choice. If I were American it would always be the Morgan, my favourite of American silver dollars! I'd get both. One for this month and hope the other is still on the market next month.
Otherwise, I can't choose for. Flip a coin? Lol!
Always with love 🌺😁💞🌻💝

In terms of design, I do have the 1889 Queen Victoria Crown. I was after the 1888 date. And BTW, the seller pull out the listing. The auction was supposed to go for 7 days. Perhaps another offered to buy it. So the choice has been made for me. I am eager t get the 1888 Morgan... wow a BU! Exciting!
Have a beautiful day, sis @kerrislravenhill, Take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots f love and a million and one Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!

Well......I like both but I also like the fact that the Morgan is BU. However, the crown is very nice. So maybe either flip a coin as @kerrislravenhill suggests or......also as she suggests, just get both. Flip a coin for which one is first to purchase and hope the other is still there next month. Yep, that's what I'd do! Let us know which you choose! Take care sis!😘

I would like to have both, lol! How I wish I did not put restrictions on myself. It s so tempting to use my fiat stack (and say I'd replace it soon enough). Fortunately, I do not have to deal with that temptation. The seller pull out the listing for the Crown, either he changed his mind or someone made him an offer. And lucky for me, I already have in my possession the same exact deign coin, but an 1889 UK Queen Victoria. Do... it is the Morgan for me! How exciting.I can't wait to see an 1888 BU US Silver Dollar.
Have a beautiful day, my sweet sis @elizabethit, take care 🥰🌺🤙, lots of love and hugs 😘🤗

Very tough....@silversaver888 my first BU coin was a 1921 Morgan, and I am now a bullion stacker but......Given the two, the winner has to be the Morgan!😀
They are beautiful large coins from our U.S. past, and this one is in BU condition..very nice!!
Looking forward to finding out which is the winner!!!😍😍😀
