Steem Think Tank Survey

I noticed a couple of people write one of these so I thought why not. The survey questions themselves are from here

How long have you been using Steem?

Around 34 months. I joined in June 2017.

Where are you in terms of SP?

Dolphin

Where are you in the world? (Just Country)

US

What brought you to Steem?

A friend of a family friend who was a Steemian at the time wanted to know my thoughts about Steem and cryptocurrency in general. She had heard that I use to run a very small Block Erupter farm for fun before BTC went sideways for a number of years and I stop following what was going on in that world.

What was your first impression?

I was externally overwhelmed. Thankfully I had a very warm welcome due to a couple of people the person who on boarded me knew. I also started following a lot of other new people and we just started helping each other out with answers, votes, engagement. It would have been different for me if I did not already had a friend here and quickly made a few more to stick around that were in the same boat as I was.

How do you feel about the current state of Steem?

Times are slow and lonely.

Almost all my friends from the early years are long gone and sometimes I feel like a grave keeper who randomly checks in to see if there any sign of life.

With that said I’m still quite optimistic within reason that investing time now will help build a decent foundation that I can use for years to come. I would not be investing time into a number of projects as I am if I did not think that.

How often do you use Steem applications/websites/etc?

Quite a few times per day.

What is your favorite Steem Application and why?

I really love the user experience Steempeak provides. Instead of needing to go out to a bunch of different websites to do this or that they have done an amazing job at integrating a lot of quality of life ( pin feature, dark mode, 10 tags, showing voting mana, witness and proposal window, tribe feeds.)

I also know if I send a user to that front end they are not going get bombarded with a bunch of cryptocurrency ads. While I do talk about blockchain games from time to time people into cryptocurrency are not my main demographic and they can sometimes be scared away rather easy from whatever nonsense they have read about the topic.

What’s your favorite thing about Steem?

There is a certain type of person who would even discover something like Steem let alone join it. Because of that, you get to meet so many trying to accomplish such a wide range of things from being a blogger to a developer. This place is such a massive mecca of entrepreneurship and because of that, there are so many roles that just need people to fill them even if they lack the experience they are needed regardless.

What’s your least favorite thing about Steem?

The 7-day cycle and I do my best to fight against it. We have so much amazing content already on Steem and yet the focus remains within the current couple hours of creation.

So many seem to be burning out from trying to chase after this endless hunger the platform has for newly printed content. I fear many content creators of today will become yet another dead blog once they hit the wall and are unable to recover while trying to maintain such a heavy content creation cycle.

How difficult/easy would you say it is to use Steem?

A child could use it if they were logged into an account. Someone could also write a thesis on just trying to understand 10% of it.

Would you recommend Steem to family/friends/coworkers? If no why not?

I have and it’s the same old same old. They don’t have the time. Those that do rather create content on YouTube or Twitch. People around me are not into cryptocurrency, blogging, or sharing their lives so openly. Years from now they will be telling me I was an idiot or they wished they had taken my advance and joined at the time. I’ve been told both of these things countless times about other stuff so we will have to see how it goes.

What do you wish you could do with Steem that you can’t currently?

Making my own game which is more my lack of ability than the systems of the platform in place to do so. It’s something I’m actively working on a little here or there. I think that is how a lot of Steem is things that are possible to do if you understand how to do it and have time.

What excites you most about Steem?

Seeing success stories. It’s always great to see someone go beyond their comfort zone and become successful at it. For this platform to really go somewhere we need a whole lot of people becoming successful in whatever it is that they do here.

What worries you most about Steem?

The passion fading away and its eyes become cold as a fish.

Yeah, times are slow. Reminds me of the time about 3 years ago - when prices were under 10cents. The people that remained were here for the long haul and didn't really care about the prices. Thats when the communities formed.
The cool thing about steemit is that it only takes a small pump to get people interested and back to this platform...
And I would have to say that this crypto winter has sent many projects to the graveyard - though steemit is still going and the prices have seemingly hit a solid bottom.
I think there is good year coming up soon...

Keep on keeping on~

This right here. Its the quality of person attracted to the degree of accountability and transparency the chain offers; that makes it my favourite place.

I think it mixes it up a bit when you share so many versatile subjects as you often do. It gives you quite a verified fan base of followers, one of the reasons why despite losing so many friends here you've been able to maintain a study rate of growth. It goes back to that old clique of keeping to many eggs in one basket, you've maintain an incredible ability to diversify your basket.

I’ve seen what happens when a gaming content creator only focuses on one game and builds everything around just that. Once they get burned out and want to move on they feel they can’t. While their core supporters will be happy with other games the majority of viewers won’t be.

Those kinds of creators do get the short term benefit of just sticking to one thing. The long term is usually their sanity.

It’s great when I can find a game I really enjoyed and can create a few posts out of it. It’s also less time-intense for me to focus on a single game. They are usually so far and few between. There are a couple in 2020 I’m hoping I will get a few posts out of it once they release.

It’s also nice knowing I can put out even a non-gaming post and people have come to expect such things. Downside I have over a dozen posts I want to make right now. Some I’ll decide won’t be worth the time. Others I really need to finish!

....better hurry....before to long we'll be back out gardening again, as challenging as it will be to beat the posts of that gigantic tomato plant from last year I'll be waiting to see your successes of this year.

That will be hard to beat. Perhaps one day I’ll get an orange tree. I doubt it will be happening at this location though so it’s going be a while.
